Can a 1995 M50B20 engine be fitted into a 1988 320i without too much trouble? What parts from the donor car would be needed?
Cheers

ok.. if you are going thru the trouble of the 24v swap, it makes no sense whatsoever to fit the b20..

Aye, may cost a bit more for the engine itself, but 2.5 is surely the only way to go.

Yeah, would love to but I'm only 19 and wouldn't stand a chance of getting insured on a 2.5 mod.
So I wanna put the B20 in so that it can be a bit better now and easier to fit the 2.5 when I can get insured.

Can you not go thru any of you parents for Insurance?? Or Classic Insurance?? Thats what I've done and I'm thinking of the M50B25!!

Personally I would just stick with the m20 for now then mate, its still got that lovely 6 pot sound and smoothness, and won't really be a lot slower than an m50b20. Go all out on a m50b25 when you can insure it. It will be a lot less hassle than 2 engine swaps, even if the last 2 are similar.Jamus wrote:Yeah, would love to but I'm only 19 and wouldn't stand a chance of getting insured on a 2.5 mod.

Do it, then later converting into a M50B25 will be a piece of cake.
you can use the same wiring harness for both M50 engines,
even the same ecu, just have to swap the chip for a B25 one,
same transmission and so on,
