Looks nice an expensive ! :)

Is there much performance differance between a tubular and log type manifolds ?

Just to sound bitchy:

Lots of the pipes come into the turbo flange at funny angles, some seemingly at almost 90deg to the desired direction of flow.

The other thing is that there seems to be an external wastegate plumbed in to ONE of the runners! What's the point of that?!

Think the main advantage of tubular manifolds over log style is that you can keep the pulse spacings to the turbine nice and equal as long as it's got equal length runners.

I know nothing about Turbos, other than I want one for my S50  but I dont know if would be happy with the way the pipes are arranged into the turbo flange. Just seems a bit untidy :?

I think the wastegate thingy is on its own pipe connected directly to the turbo flange.

Aah yes, you're right. There's a seperate pipe coming down between two of the runners to the wastegate. Not exactly a smooth or direct path for the gas to follow though.

For what they do, integral wastegates are pretty good IMO.

Excuse me for being a numpty and going off topic, but what do wastegates do??
Is it kinda like a dump valve, but on the exhaust side of the turbo?

The wastegate regulates the amount of boost pressure produced.

The air side of the system has a pipe that connects to the wastegate. The wastegate is set to open at a certain boost pressure so when that boost is reached, the wastegate opens and lets some of the exhaust gas go straight into the exhaust system, bypassing the turbo so no more boost it produced.

Nice little closed loop system really :)

Ahh, I see.
So it bypasses the turbo to limit the boost, whereas a dump valve lets the pressure out from between the turbo and throttle butterfly once its been produced (if you get what I mean), supposedly stopping the turbo from stalling??

Noise of the dump valve aside, which is better or do you have both?

Wastegate regulates the boost so you gotta have one.

Dump valves vent unwanted boost to atmosphere or back to the compressor intake on the turbo to prevent stalling.

Dump is defo optional, but seems silly not to use one , if only for the phiiiiiisht noise on upships

howz the 330 coming dude ? you resolve the TBW issue you were having ?

Thats why I want something thats turbo'd. I love that sound.

Its getting there cheers, but there have been some set backs. My exhaust manifold seems to have disappered from the guys workshop whilst he was on holiday. So Im waiting to hear from next week as to if he found it.
I got the inlet plenum back, but Im not happy at all as its still not finished, so Im not paying the bloke.

Ive actaully got a friend who has started to make me a plenum from a design I did a while ago, so I will probably end up using that. Either way, it will get finished but I need to save some more money first though

They are the only big jobs that need doing, the rest is just making it look tidy and sorting the air filter arrangement once the plenums done. Ive got to sort the EWS alignment as well, but that will wait until the car is ready to be started.
