Si have you got a picture of your black carpet? is it known a Scheifer in colour on the ETK as the replacement for anthricite? sp

Simon, I believe Schiefer is the standard colour that is found in most E30's, Schiefer is german for slate.

The black carpet is anthracite (would make sense coal black)

I'll sort some pics of the carpet out.

I have driven it, only for a short distance as it hasn't been taxed and tested for about 2 years!

Pulled really well, and was very quiet, little lumpy at idle, but I suppose that's understandable as it's been sat for so long, and only started to move around a workshop.

Guy I bought it from is also a rally driver who rallies a 325i sport, and his comments were that it felt considerably faster than his 325i (no mods allowed due to the regs), and that it also felt twitchier than his 325i. Thinking maybe a 40% diff...?

well a 40% diff would certainly be noticable i think compared to the 25% ones. Might be a good go between the welded diff and standard LSD. It might be lumpy because of the cam also as hartge lumps used a more aggressive cam than alpina. They cough a touch with 272 cams fitted.

Looks a hell of a lot of work, thats why i wont go near anything thats had a tech 2 kit from the factory.

I'd frag it and re-shell the Hartge goodies into a nice 2door

I would imagine it still has the original 325i sport c/r box, and yes, it's also got the proper bilsteins.

Good question on the ratio...will have to find out.

Simon, I've only just found this thread. I have to say that I'm gutted for you that it's turned-out the way it has. At the start of the thread it all looked so promising.
At least if you can get your investment back on some fragments and get to keep some for your Touring, all won't have been in vain.
I have to echo Tom's sentiment though. I've never been a fan of the MTech2 side-pods - I've seen too many horror's posted here in the last 4 years.

Stu cheers for the comments, as I've said though, the price I paid for it, it was always going to be a winner. I'm not afraid to take on the bodywork, just see it a little pointless if the car is never going to be regarded as a proper H27. Shame really as the car has a good mileage, with history and all old MOT's to go with it.

Its still an interesting sport with history and if you say your not scared of the work then why not? Dont throw in the towel just yet! People have brought back sports in worse condition ie beardymatt the legend!!

i would do it up si i think its loads better than a touring plus like you say you've got a car with a low mileage all the history and mots which i think count for a lot especially when you come to resell it. good luck with whatever you decide.

OK, been exchanging e-mails with Kevin Bird, the car is logged on their records as a H27, and he has said that as long as all the parts are genuine Hartge, then he sees no problem with the car being regarded as a proper H27.

He has confirmed that the engine is a genuine Hartge built engine through his records, and I know that the rest of the parts from research and what I've seen on here are genuine. It leaves me to find a rocker cover and a strut brace, plenty of time for that...

This has helped me make the decision to spend the time and money, and put this car back on the road, after all, as has been pointed out, the car is still a 325i sport, and a good one is still worth money.

It's going to be a long termer me thinks though, with a recent new born (8 months now!) and another due in May 2008 (didn't waste anytime ) it won't be an overnight thing!

I think you have made the right decision!
If it's logged as a H27 with Birds then a H27 it is.

Hartge list a rear strut brace as an option, so assuming this is one, no markings unfortunately, but it looks like it's been fitted for a while..





Managed to remove the rear badges undamaged too..

glad your going ahead with it simon.. my tec1 sport is needing a fair bit of work aswell and i did a bit of soul searching and was tempted to frag it at one point but then i decided that she was worth the time and effort but again like you it will be a long term project
