My first MOT with Megasquirt installed. Went to a different MOT station than my usual one. Finally I think I have found a friendly MOT tester.

He was an old chap, and he took an hour and 20 minutes to do it! Passed, with no advisories. He said something about a loose connection on the fog lamps, which stopped them working, which he fixed FOC. Other than that, no problems.

CO %: 3.084
HC ppm: 231

CO was a bit high. There was no indication as to what rpm that was tested at.
If it's below 1500 rpm, then thats down to me, trying to set a smooth idle.

Just it was a bit of an unknown with the emissions, and my handiwork.

Standard 325i Sport with Big Bore Throttle Body.

Worthwhile? - YES! The car feels so much more lively. Much quicker pickup throughout the entire rev range. See my writeup in my sig.

Yep, no probs with the mot on my emerald, my tick over is normally rich at about 5% CO but it ticks over smoother with my cam better like that, MOT time comes round i take a couple of clicks of fuel off one load sight and passes fine.

Congrats

Are you using the same map as in your writeup?
I'm thinking that I might use it as a basemap for my DTA if it's working for you with the BBTB.
Are you using a std cam?

ANDY
Any chance you could e-mail me a copy of your Emarald map?
IIRC your using 2 throttle bodies.
Is that still the case?
Might be able to use it a s a base map for my setup

Standard cam. BBTB is the only mod I have done. I will be updating the map on my writeup soon, as well as uploading the megasquirt files.

The idle when cold is still a bit flaky, but warmed up, the engine sings when pushed. winkeye

We got the Mi16 through the emissions by setting the fueling to about 15.5:1 at idle. That made the idle a bit shaky but playing with the ignition advance on the idle site has made it steady as a rock.

Certainly worth playing with as the emissions were absolutely MILES inside the requirements :)

Well done!

I've mot'd mine with MS, took a few goes to get both values under but managed it even with a HT arcing out and an air leak! MOT Tester had to dive for the button when the value dropped as I was messing with the mixture.

The first time there the MOT station wouldn't let me adjust the mixture, they kept telling me they could do it via the AFM, I just left them to it, LOL, after a few scratches to their heads they asked " where the fook is it?" LOL

 I would have liked to have been there for that!

My MOT wasn't completely without drama. They couldn't find the VIN plate. They called me in from the waiting room, and there were five mechanics looking under the hood. I couldn't remember where the thing was either. Soon found it.

Atleast I wasn't the only one then.

The MOT testers old man was having a proper rant about how cars "made at home in the garage" shouldn't be allowed on the roads and how in his day they all knew how to strip and engine before they were allowed to drive their cars etc, when I was saying I could adjust the mixture/timing/idle etc without touching the engine he got really stroppy and basically told me that it couldn't be done. I will never forget the face he pulled when I plugged in the lap top and sat on a chair 10ft from the car and sorted the fueling out so it passed the MOT.

The other mech's were very good and asked load's of Q's, even a few compliments were said, which I was flatteretd by but the old boy just kept going on and on about how much of a stupid idea it was, LOL.

It made the burn out and 100ft wheel spin up the yard and onto the road even more satisfying!
