hey guys.....

ive seen a car for sale, it has a manifold issue havent viewed it yet but will be going later 2nite to have a look.....do u guys have any advice if its the engine manifold on if i shud bother with it or if i can be repaired or replaced and at what cost wud that be? or if its the exhaust downpipe manifold is that a big issue if not how much would thet be to repair or replace?

It could just be the gasket. The main manifold gasket was blowing out when I bought mine.
I got all new studs and gaskets for about Ԛ£20-30 and fitted them myself.
Its an easy job but takes ages just taking all the old nuts and studs out and swapping them over.

just try and pinpoint where its blowing from..... prob from where the manifold meets head as adam said...

Check for black carbon desposits around where one of the pipes joins the head. If its been blowing out for a while it will have left some. Or you could just run the car and get your ear up close and have a listen. :)

I'll dig out some pics of what mine looked like!

Here you can see what was left of one of the gaskets. It just fell apart in my hand when I took it out.

Common BMW 4-pot problems are snapped exhaust manifold studs, always go in the bottom left hand corner. Not too bad to repair but you will need a 90' drill and a decent stud remover set coz getting in the space provided is plenty of fun without taking the head off! :(
