try BMW i had a price to do my tappets from a garage was about £100. BMW Dealer was cheaper was only £79+VAT atleast they will know what they are doing.

As said above use the correct settings 0.25mm..You've probably overadjusted a couple, easily done...Invest in a set of angled feeler gauges, make the job much easier :x

adjusted them again and back to just the one making the loud noise which leads me to believe it is not a tappet. Maybe a couple of things ive been told so i'll look into them. thanks for help everyone.

it's .25 from cold or .35 hot. Leave the exhaust ones a bit "loose" if you have a 6 branch fitted. I wouldn't stray from these settings. There's various arguments for setting them at hot or cold

I bet a mars bar if you change the spraybar it will quieten down a fair bit. If you can set the tappets you can chagne this! about £10 from bmw and a decent 8mm spanner to change it. if they are done up way to tight and it's rounding cut it in half with a hack saw, and use the ring spanner on it and it should go. The new ones only need to be nipped up, not gorilla tight! Cover the valve gear up before you cut it as well to stop any shite for the hack saw getting into the head.
