Not so bad is it? I guess they did it for marketing reasons, to create a wider appeal.
Interesting the way the M3 has progressed from 4 to 6 and now 8 cylinders!

Weren't E30 and E46 M3's available in the 4-door flavour too?????
I don't see a problem. If the factory hadn't done it, someone else would have.
Fair play, I say. Plus Chris is right too.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

It suffers from the same problem as all E90 saloons - bland emotionless styling. Most of the bangle stuff (E60, E65) I'm a big fan of simply because it's daring and different but the 3 is the equivalent of magnolia paint. A M3 saloon will always have Q car appeal but the coupe just looks so much better - one of the best looking cars on the road IMO.

I can understand why the styling is underwhelming. Th e30 M3 in th 80's was extravagantly styles, albeit from a practical viewpoint.
Modern cars which are designed with that mantra include Scoobies and Evo's. Ghastly and council in appearance. The blander and more subtle styling ensures the m3 isn't tarred with that less than sophisticated brush. However I agree with earlier comments. Audi got the RS4 completely right, this just doesn't quite click.
As with all Bangle designs, time seems to warm the heart to them.

If I ever get rid of the scrap (bar the 320touring) and get a real job, its m5 touring time (e34 FTW!)

f**k that, i want to see a factory M3 touring, the cab version is a dead cert but a factory first touring would be great!
bmw seems to be expanding the line up and making alot of more versions of everything. Desiel 6's soon and dirty cabs aswell recently. X3 new X6 coming, 8 series is coming back? big expansion from them in the past 10 years or so.

I have to agree with that Si.. Would be the contender for the new rs6 avant. 500 odd bhp they reckon.
M30 Tech 1 Touring on gas.

A friend of my brothers who is 22

has got a new rs4 in black and it is stunning in the flesh. The noise is to die for as well. That bmw, although only a photo is a million miles off. Sure i'd have one, but not over an rs4. I'd get a met black rs4 and take off the nasty chrome mirror covers and enjoy it far more

+1, hate to say it but if i had the choice of the RS4 or 4 door M3 i would go for the Audi evertime.
I was following one to work today in heavy traffic, it sound and looks very horny
The 2 door M3 is a different story
