sump plug size ??

Can someone tell me what size the sump plug on the 318iS is please ??

I've read 12mm, but dunno if this is the size of spanner/socket needed to remove the plug or if that is the size of the actual drain hole.

The engine is not with me at the moment so I can't remove the "bodge job plug" to have a look. The sump drain is needing retapped and it has been bodged to stop it leaking by the previous owner, so just wanna make sure I have the right size of retap and bolt etc.

This sump is to go onto the engine from an e36 to replace the current engine which broke it's chain.

It's a 17mm head on the 325i, and I believe it's the same on the 318i. Be very careful retapping the plug hole as you really do not want swarf getting into the sump.

The sump is coming off anyway as it has to be swapped to the e36 engine.

Whats the drain hole size on a i.s is it M12?
