sand blasting

ive got pally with my local sand blaster and he said he will blast some bits for me for just the price of te grit, ive also got some scabby bbs alloys so is it worth blasting them? i will be aerosoling te myself so will this give me a better finish

Alloys should be glass blasted, not sand blasted ... as I was told by the guy who straightened my Hartge wheels.
Sand is too harsh for them.

got my cousin to sand blast my bottle tops for free they look good for bottletops

sand-blasting with create lots of 'pin-hole' type inperfections which will take alot more effort prepping if you want a perfect finish.

I work for a company that does, amongst about a million other things, blasting and painting.
Sand/grit blasting will be fine as long as a fine grit is used (Olavine) and at a reasonable pressure. If the guy doing it is a muppet and just goes hammering in then you might get problems with surface erosion. If it is an experienced blaster and he works at them slowly it wont be a problem.
Any fine surface roughness will provide a good key for a high build primer which will fill any small imperfections anyway.

Would BBS's come up well powder coated?
There is a bloke near me who says he can take the tyres off, blast back to clean bare metal, powder coat and re shoe/re balance for £150 for all five.
I think he is thinking of more gaudy colours but can you powder coat them or would the center caps not fit and generally look crap? Should i just lacquer them after blasting?
