325i touring top speed
Moderator: martauto
that's water temp not oil temp - cars generally run cooler water temp the faster you go, oil is slightly lower than usualkam-325i wrote:But it is still running to cold......benco wrote:i've got a south african radiator fitted

in my old sport evo I was off the clock so around 150mph (collected a slow reacting starling at the time)
I've not had a chance to stretch the 325i but have maxed my pork on the way to the 'Ring (it's geared to 176mph), it emptied it's 92 litre tank pretty quickly though

Go DJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just had to pull that off the shelf and spin it now!!!!Leen wrote:Good tune! lol,
Good effort seen as your handbrake was on lol
ps your car runs really cool! Or is it just cold?
That light is for the brake pads - mine is also permanently on at the mo cos there aren't any pad sensors connected!!!
Also, my water temp drops to around there when i'm going fast - even at 70 on the mway - i can assure you my oil temp guage reads a lot higher!!!
Ease off guys - he didn't say it was an actual speed!! He also said it was on a runway!!!
My speedo is F***** - way out!!! Reads about 100 when i'm doing 80!!!! Had it showing over 140 the other day, but i guarantee that wasn't over 120 in real life!!! Don't think it'd even reach 140 with a sport box and 3.91 diff?!?!?
Got a new dash cluster i'm gonna put in one day - then my fuel gauge might start working too!!!!!!
BTW - check my avatar for 160mph!!! Fairly accurate i reckon 'cos it hit the 157mph limiter!!! Not in an E30 though - E31 baby, yeah!!!
327 Touring with bass!!!

I dont think mine would read above 130 you know. Ive had 120mph. It accelerates really hard and holds my bosses ST220 to about 70, and my Dad's MGF VVC to about 70 aswell, and both of those cars have a 6.9s 0 - 60 book figure. No way would mine ever read 146mph. And before you say it, yes my Dad is gay. Gotta find out what my diff is...

I've had mine clocked (accurately with racelogic GPS timing gear) at 157mph. No vid though.
If it aint broke - Modify it...
Mine will happily hit the limiter in top with 147 on the clock in practically no space at all. GPS shows 137.
My 2.7 would pull off the clocks (160+) but was GPS proven at 142 when Karan had it.
You'll pull 135 max in a standard 325 if you're lucky and have enough space.

if you have a obc with the correct coding plug and std wheels keep pressing the reset button and you will get a speed reading that is pretty spot on ....i had a mate follow me in a traffic car and was supprised how accurate it was .....but the speedo showed 60 mph the car was actually doing 52mph and at higher speeds it was even further out .....at 30 on the speedo i was onling doing a true 25mph
In its youth I had an indicated 135 mph on the autobahn in the 325i cab, was running out of puff by that stage and front end went very light. Had 140 mph + indicated out of my old Saab 900 T 16v and it felt like it was running on rails!

You simply don't have enough revs available to reach a true 153mph with a 3.91 diff ratio and sport box. Even with a mildly modified engine, you won't have enough power or revs to reach 153mph.benco wrote:325i ported polished

had the car bounce on the limiter at over 150mph. CLOCK READING
from my estimate it was about 153mph.
My car has longer gearing (3.64 diff ratio), around 300bhp, and revs to 7800rpm, and only manages 157mph.

Your estimate is rubbish then. If you were lucky you may have seen 140.benco wrote:325i ported polished

With that info, Rev limit @ 6500, assuming 205/55/16 tyres.....benco wrote:325i ported polished

Off the shelf GPS is meant to help you find a route. No good for indicating speed. Just because it's newer, doesn't make it better. IIRC, GPS doesn't take altitude variation into consideration, ie it works in 2 dimensions, not 3.

He won't be running 205/55/16s though as they are much bigger than standard rolling diameter.kam-325i wrote:With that info, Rev limit @ 6500, assuming 205/55/16 tyres.....benco wrote:325i ported polished

With his mods (180bhp if he's lucky) he wouldn't pull that gearing to the limiter in top either.
I had the same diff and gearbox on my 2.7 Sport and that had a proper 213bhp and 205/50/15s (so lower geared) and that wouldn't hit the limiter in top. Due to the tyres though it'd happily point at 160 on the dials but it was nowhere near there.

The gear'd top speed i've given take into account the larger tyre.ste wrote:He won't be running 205/55/16s though as they are much bigger than standard rolling diameter.kam-325i wrote:With that info, Rev limit @ 6500, assuming 205/55/16 tyres.....benco wrote:325i ported polished

But thats not even a touringmaxfield wrote:160 mph, accurate evidence! (click me)

I dont believe the gps are 100% accurate either , Did a run in my ond valver early hours of the morning , It told me to turn left quarter of a mile AFTER i pasted the junction so i personally would say the speed was 100% on the nail .
Giggety Giggety Goo!!!
why is it bull shite
all i did was state clock speeds
i never once pointed out that the speeds where actual road speeds
look at my vid
6000rpm CLOCK REVS
146mph CLOCK SPEEDS
AND IT STILL WAS PULLING
LIKE I STATED I ESTIMATED THE CLOCK READING TO BE 153MPH

your clock was say 150, you estimated 153 top speed
now go away, this thred is about "true" top speeds not your BS estimates.

Top speed can be worked out with out "Arse tearing it" down a run way.
All you need is........
1, Engine RPM limt
2, Top gear ratio
3, Final drive ratio (Diff)
4, Tyre size
Thats it.
That info will give you the Terminal speed of the car.
My 325i has a Terminal gear'd speed of 157.9Mph, but it will not do that speed.

my touring(used to be a 325
) runs out of steam at nearly 140mph which i put down to the gearing on the 3.91 lsd because my same engine went much faster in my last project ,but it gets there mighty f*****g quickly
i know its nothing to do with a 325 but i thought id add it anyway
