The DME is the ECU
DME = Digital Motor Electronics.
ECU = Engine/Electronic Control Unit.
What engine is it ?

Part number 24 in picture, its found directly underneath the Throtle Body.

It is a switch that is used to tell the ECU how much throttle you are using.......sort of.......
It has three positions/signals.
1 Throttle Closed (idling)
2 Throttle Open (normal driving)
3 WOT = Wide Open Throttle. (Foot to the floor!)

I wouldn't take it apart TBH, spray some carb cleaner down there and flush out with compressed air, or more carb cleaner!
