Does anyone have one? i went to install my nice new alpine headunit last night, to find the loom has been butchard quite a bit, so i stripped it all back, now i have all the speaker wires, and i have 4 others coming from the left,
Purple - switched 12v
Brown - Ground
2 others (not got other colours handy)
But if one of the 2 misc ones is not connected the interior light does not work, and the rev-counter & speedo etc dont work! but there is no perm live!
also the Fag lighter is only running about 4v?
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advnce

try a haynes manual the wiring diagrams are not too bad in there,
do you have the radio harness? it plugs in behind glovebox,
gives live, earth, ignition and a live that comes on with headlights

I've also been doing a spot of stereo re-wiring. The 2 others look like red/grey and red/green.BrAdZ wrote:and i have 4 others coming from the left,

In Placey's article about ICE (check out the Articles archive), he said the red/grey wire is perm 12v. I tried that but it didn't work. I think (for my 320) it's actually the red/green one which is perm live and I connected that to the memory cable of the head unit. Does it work? I'm not 100% sure yet (I didn't finish last night as it got too dark
Good luck!

i think my red/green one is a lead that powers the dash if you connect it to a 12v feed? lol

My notes say:
red/green = perm. 12V+
grey/red = panel illumination
white/purple = switched 12V+
brown = earth.
If you look behind the glovebox, you will find the C302 accessories socket.
In the top left corner is terminal Z, which is for the power antenna, and next to it is a vertical block of four connectors for the radio. From top to bottom, Y = earth, X= switched live, W= panel lights and W= perm. live.
(p.s. In some cars the whole C302 socket may be fitted upside down) .

If it's an Alpine V Drive headunit (60w x4) you will need 20 amps and
a good earth otherwise you'll run into problems like overheating and sounding like a Kenwood headunit.
I've wired mine direct to the battery using meaty cable, all fused etc, like a scaled down version of running power to an amp. It made a massive difference compared to the standard wiring. It is also grounded directly to the battery too. The usual switched live is upto the job as no real current flows through that.

thanks for all your help guys! the problem was..... a bit of a stupid one.....
it was a fuse, it hadnt blown was just well corroded
so then everyting worked perfectley!!
But instead of running another wire off the battery for a good 12v feed, i ran it of the cigarete lighter as advised by the auto electrician that works next to me, as its all fused/wired up to support upto 30amp, compared to the 10 amp standard headunit wiring!
And for the earth behind the glovebox there was already a earth strap there so i took a direct feed off that!
all working 100% now!
Thank you for all your help!
Regards
Adam

Glad it's all sorted
When I put my Alpine in I checked the fag lighter wiring and thought it was very small guage for a reall 20amps to get down. Mind you it is a 320 and everything is underpowered on them!
