Hi guys I am planning to put a weber 32/36 on my 316 m10 motor.

I have a weber 32/36 with a water choke that I got for free here is my question.

1: Can I use this weber with the water choke if so where do I link the hot water feed from I was thinking the heater pipe with a T piece.

2: Can I remove the water choke and replace it with a electric weber one.

3: I live at the coast in South Africa where the temp never drops below 15C, can I remove the choke altogether or set it in the open position.

I used to run a DGAS on my old M10 from a 3litre Capri. I just did away with the choke altogether, it took a bit of heel and toe to keep it going when it was cold but it is obviously a lot warmer where you are!
I took the whole mechanism out, shaft and butterfly.

Oh and did you need a base plate or did it fit straight on the manifold

I made my own baseplate, welded 4 studs onto it to mount the carb base and it was screwed down to the manifold with countersunk screws. If you can imagine, the carb seating face would be over the heads of the countersunk screws. I made a gasket and gave it a squirt of sealer and it was ok. It is tricky welding the studs though because the rear of the plate has to be smooth to mate to the manifold. It was a bit rough to be honest but it worked fine.
I thought the car had plenty of poke and it sounded great! A massive difference from original.
It probably wasnt set up that well as the carb was a bit worn, i just set the idle and mixture as best i could. I didnt bother messing around with tubes or anything.
It ran well though. :D

Hi, the carb looks great, I had a 316 with the 1.8 engine, and the carb gave up, so I fitted a 32/36 DMTL weber carb. I had machine an adapter from aluminium to fit it to the manifold, and one to fit a K&N style air filter on top of the carb, and I fitted a manual choke. The car never went so well, It had loads more grunt, and on a run I was getting 42mpg, and lovely roar from the carb when the second choke opened. Did you find this with yours? As someone else I know fitted a slightly different version with an auto choke and had loads of trouble.
