Thanks for your sense of humour!

Car is looking great, good luck in sorting the insurance out. My second car was a mk2 Golf Gti. I was 21? and had it 3rd party for about 700 quid.

You done any pass plus or advanced driving courses yet? (You have passed right?)

Always got a sense of humor. Unless someone takes it to far (Demlot).

Insurance quotes seem to be about £1200-£1500.

Not passed yet. Not even 17 :)

hi max, been on here a few years now (used to be under a different name until my bitch ex girlfriend changed all my passwords etc) aqnd used to see you on here being ripped when you were 14 and 15 but you know a surprising amount about cars, having a dad like yours.

im 21 now and my first car was a 316i coupe in diamond black, took me about 8 months before i finally got off my ass after complaing about the lack of power and dropped a 2.5 in. the change is unbelievable but you are definately best off getting used to the power of the lil 4 pot first, although they dont take much abuse as the 6 pots can. i killed my 316 engine from the revvy abuse. mine was on about 170,000 though.

your lucky you have a dad who is so enthusiastic about e30's and you have taken that on so you dont go through the chavvy stage of saxo's clio's, corsa's etc which, in all fairness, 90% of lads when they first past their test do. you've been brought up around it so everyone knows your not gonna chav yours up and it will be tastefully modified.

i got into cars early and was reading max power from around 10 and loved all the flip paint scissor doors etc but by the time it came to passing my test i was luckily out of that stage and had found myself a lovely e30.

look forward to seeing what yours becomes mate, and hopefully you'll follow in the footsteps of ya dad

Nice one Jamie - interesting project and better than most first cars!!!!

Why not just use a bit of velcro on the plates???
I always use that on mine - cheap, easy & hidden!!!! Never had any probs with it staying put in any weather - even at 160mph in the 8 series!!!
And you could always keep a yellow rear plate in the boot and swap them over if you had to!!!

That's what I will be doing. My Dad hasn't had problems at those sorts of speeds either. Easy to change if the police want to give me out a fine too...

If they're velcro'd over the 'proper' plates, you could claim ignorance, "sorry officer, was taking some pics, must have forgotten to take them off again", or "sorry officer, on my way home from a car meet"... winkeye

I couldn't Velcro them over the original plates as there would be Velcro blocking the numbers and letters...

Defiantly the best idea!

Not if the velcro was literally cut out to fit over the original numbers and letters...

Suppose. Think I will just stick some strips of Velcro on the body and have it done with.

Need to get paid for some more bits... But as my Dad is stuck in Spain with a Escort diesel with a snapped cambelt :(

Make sure you get it insured with him as provisional. We left "1ans" until he had passed, it jumped from £800 quoted to £1200 !! They said if I had done it with him on provisional it wouldn't have gone up when he passed !! More of a risk when out on their own :D

That was a new policy in my name and no "no claims" with Quinn Direct, they wouldn't consider a 318 though, only a 316.
