Hi all,
For anybody who's interested I'll keep a little record here of my megasquirt build, install and tuning.
Here's a link to all the pics - not many so far but I'll add more each time I get a step further

The kit I got through bill (from glensgarage) labels all the components R1,R2 etc etc so they match up 100% with the diagrams and assembly instructions, so really it's paining by numbers - which is nice. I can just about cope with resister codes but capacitors annoy me
As I said, I got a few pics so far - when I get home later tonight I'll post 'em up.
Where abouts are you with yours mate? I know you sold the old one, are you building another one?

Hey Hoshy, saw from your msn that it had arrived, whats the new suspension too?
I'd love to read how you get on with it thinking of going that route myself.

The kit I had was the same but like a 5yr old at xmas I opened everything and then realised.....sh1t.......hoshy wrote:The kit I got through bill (from glensgarage) labels all the components R1,R2 etc etc so they match up 100% with the diagrams and assembly instructions, so really it's paining by numbers - which is nice. Mines fully built, tested, modded and in the car working fine!
I went for a V3 msns-e 029q2 with boost control, water injection, water pump and tach out for extra's.
I'm also on wasted spark and use the wideband too, would like to add the EGT next.
Just hope I don't get the VEMS bug and swap but not enough free money for that!
I'll dig out a pic of mine with all the extras on, might be of use

Cheers mark - a pic would be cool.
I'm gonna go -extra with the latest firmware, 4cop w/wasted spark - I've heard this is the easiest/safest way using the stock iS parts. I think I should be able to get "sequential" ignition running as the iS has a cam sensor too but this will come later.
Hopefully tonight I'll start building the input stages - unfortunately my stim won't arrive til early next week so won't be able to do a full test. Suppose I could take some temp sensor readings for EasyTherm though - Keep me out of trouble
After that I've got to look at the output stages, and the ignition control - that's where it will get interesting as it's when I move out of the standard B&G assembly instructions and into the -extra world.

Easy as, jumper the VR in and build the VR side only, no need for the hall.
Fit the VB921z ingitors to the upper casing ( with compound and metal bolts) not on the heat sink are, leave out all the parts for the LED sections, utilise the main 330 Ohm resistors on the logic gated side of the IGBTs.
the real fun will start when you add the daughtercard for the second VR channel to use the Cam synch as second trigger, dont waste time chasing sequential fuelling either, no gains to be had unless you must have 1-2 mpg marginal gain in places.
Sweet
Oh, and High-res code is NOT for road use, Alpha test means is dodgy to say the least.

I had heard about the high-res code but didn't realise it's alpha. Will give that a wide-berth for now.
You've answer one of my questions already - I was gonna build both hall etc and VR just cos I wasn't certain yet if the crank sensor was VR. Clearly it is
So I'll just build that side of the circuit.
I was looking briefly at the circuits for the 4 912s and trying to figure out if I have to ditch the LEDs - looks like the -extra code uses the LED outputs if I understand you and the manuals correctly?

No LED's required dude, the outputs there are Spark A,B and C,
not sure if the Cam synch is HE or VR though , check it with a meter a HE will require a 5V supply, the VR doesn't.

nice- cheers ant. I'll look at buying of making that when the time comes. I'm happy to run wasted to start though.
the cam and crank sensors are almost identical when put side by side, but both have 3pin connectors so I guess it's still open. it's a kind of metal can type - so I'm guessing VR but will check.
Having a stupid problem with windows/megatune. Can get a boot prompt but megatune refuses to connect - test comms says "no response" - which is crap because megatunix on my desktop machine connects and reads the realtime cars just fine. fucking windows - I'll just have to linux up the laptop I guess
Anyway - back to the soldering iron for me!

p.s. still no stim - should have ordered it at same time as the rest but didn't..
might have a go at breadboarding some of the stim circuits up later if the mood takes me - think i've got most of the right parts already
