Grim reading, got the VT30 Refusal of MOT cert today. Reads as follows:

1. Nearside front suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

2 Offside front suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

3 Nearside rear suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

4 Offside rear suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded **DANGEROUS**

Add a front wheel bearing and I think this is the death knell for my 30, gutted

Going for a quote tomorrow

89 325i SE, 2-dr, annoying thing is that I've had a lot of bodywork done over the last 2 years and each time asked how the underside was and was told it was fine.

Is this the end?, what am I looking at wonga-wise?

Cheers

Could be five minutes a corner with a MIG, or a major panel replacement job.
Depends entirely on the extent and position of the corrosion.

I took I Micra for an MOT and the failure sheet looked way worse all I had to do was weld one little whole on the outer sill and change a wishbone. It's because they only have boxes to tick and can't be descriptive.

heard of worse being fixed and as previously stated could be 5 mins a corner with a mig the mot inspector can only tick boxes he cant put a description down could read a lot worse than it is and if the mot garage thought it was unsafe they would have told you to get a trailer to move it

glad alls worked out and bare in mind bodyshop prices are expensive for welding if you had a mate that's a dab hand with a welder the cost would drop dramatically winkeye

Bottom line is An E30 is not just a car to eveybody , to some its a modern classic that deserve the time and effort to bring back the looks , handling and sound . She makes me smile when i come home and turn that key.So the point iam trying to make is alot of you guys on this site would pay for the wrk and would not think twice :)

your point is true enough but on the other side i reckon a high percentage of e30 owners just see the e30 as a cheap reliable form of disposable motoring rather thana motoring icon and if you dont have access to the money you might need to put things right it then becomes a scrapyard breaker.

i dont think in true beauty. i think in practicality but do concede that the e30 has a distinctive easily recognizable aesthetically pleasing form. winkeye
