M42 & M44 Timing chain tensioner

Are they the same item? S/one down the Garage has told me the M44 one is longer and much better as it keeps the chain very tight-but according to BMW it is the same item.

Well ive never seen a original M42 tensioner, but the reason BMW say its the same is because they have the Same part numbers as the M44 one is better in design.
