dastek unichip

hi there i wondered if anyone had ever used this piggyback ecu before or had any information on it. Not sure if the pic will work cause i tried to follow the guide on hosting a pic but failed. Any help would be good

thats one of the problems with Unichip you need a unichip dealer to tune the car.............. I have a unichip but not installed anymore and would like someone who has tuned a unichip system to comment how good they think it is and how good a tune job itsd ablke to providestaffy wrote:im running the same unichip in the GUG the only prob is after getting the head skimmed im having problems getting her remapped here in good ole norn iron

Have a word with Gra325i
IIRC he's using one in his 325 sport and reckons on it putting out 187bhp

staffy - where are you? My father is a dastek dealer and can tune on the rollers for you. He's in Shrewsbury. Failing that speak to Gerry from Dastek UK, they're in Fife, Scotland but will be able to put you in contact with a dealer near you. Number is 0845 345 4045.
edit: Just figured out what norn iron is
Maybe Gerry still knows a few dealers over there...

What's the compression ratio now dude? That's at least 3 skims that head has had and the last time I had her skimmed it took a whole day's mapping to try to remove the pinking at 4k. Even on Optimax she'd still pink there at peak torque.staffy wrote:im running the same unichip in the GUG the only prob is after getting the head skimmed im having problems getting her remapped here in good ole norn iron
I think the supply/fit/map of a unichip weighs in circa 800 mate. Give him a bell - Mike - 01743 360 370Quaser wrote:How much does he charge Hoshy - im gonna need my 2.7 doing soon!
Although the 400 mile round trip might not be worth it

I ma interested to know that aswell as i will be doing a MAF conversion but using a kit similar to the MILLER one but want to be able to fine tune it with the Unichip........anyone think its possible?burrows wrote:so is this the type of management that can be set up to run without an air flow meter,
what sort of resolution in the maps does the unichip have?ste wrote:Yep my M20 ran with an M52b25 MAF and a Unichip.
Do you know exactly whats need to tune with the unichip? As i have come across some parts which i hope might be useful.

I think the maps are something like 16x8 - not sure exactlyreggid wrote:what sort of resolution in the maps does the unichip have?ste wrote:Yep my M20 ran with an M52b25 MAF and a Unichip.

that kit you have down there is what's used to tune. you'll need the software too but I presume you can get this from dastek uk. Last version i saw was a DOS app but I believe the version for the newer unichips is coming out soon, if not then it's just recently been released.
the dos version was very easy to use - hold the car at a speficic load and speed, then tweak fuel and ignition on the two knobs until max power for that load site was achieved. Not sure how far you'd get trying to do this without a RR though.

i do have the DOS software and two rather thick manuals. Tuning will be using a RR but one that is not a DASTEK dealer so they won't have the hardware unless i provide it. I just wanted to make sure that they'll be able to read the unichip.
It just looks like one end plugs into a PC and the other end to the unichip. Once its installed with power to the unichip they should be able to read and edit the various maps i hope.
Obviously WOT fuel and WOT timing maps can be changed but what else on a late plastic bumper m20b25 can be changed? What about idle speed, revlimits, part throttle timing and part throttle fuel (i have an O2 sensor which might cause issues when in closed loop mode) can those be changed?

Hi,
With the DOS software, Controller, Unichip and RR you have everything you need.
You adjust the map for various loads at various speeds, then use the interpolation feature to fill in the gaps and you can then tweak these later to perfect it.
I honestly can't recall rev limit or lambda settings but I haven't looked at the software for a couple of years, even then I was only helping map rather than doing a full install and map. I do however know that on the vtec engines my father has fitted these to the rev limit is raised so I would imagine it can be for the m20 also. As for the lambda - check your wiring diagram and see if it cuts in to the lambda signal, if it does then there's a good chance that the uni chip will keep the ECU thinking it's seeing the correct lambda signal.
Remember that the unichip is piggy back, so it's not altering the various maps in the motronic ecu but it intercepts the signals and modifies then. For example if the motronic ecu opens the injector for 2ms and you want to give it a bit more fuel, the unichip will hold it open for an additional 0.2ms giving a total time of 2.2ms.
