If its a touring, your best off taking it out. i've recovered mine as have a few others, but it is a ball ache of a job! But well worth it!

in wat respect is it a ball ache as much info is needed is it a day long job refitting or not worth dyeing darker ?

when you say recovered did you leave the original one on an go over it or remove the whole lot ? got some nice material to do mine in like a gun metal suede from a fabric shop . still need to get sunroof fixed before fitting though lol

I've spray painted one, but the paint wears off if you touch or brush against it. I pulled all the lining off mine and I'm about to recover another one. Ballache refers to making it conform around the corners/pillars/trim covers to match. The sunroof was the hardest part. I havent tried doing the visors yet, though that might be my next attempt.
