I'm no expert on Turbos on carb engines but...
Second option sounds much better. The carb may be abit more expensive to moddify but running a turbo with an Intercooler is much much safer on an engine as there is a far less risk of detonation
What engine is it by the way?

I think it'll be a waste of time and it'll drink fuel for not much power.
