I'm halfway through my m30 swap (there's a well neglected entry from me in here somewhere about it)
In the swap its talked about simply plugging in the m30 engine harness to the e30 body harness. I didn't realise until after I purchased my donor car that it didn't have a plug (its a 1984 323i). My question for someone that has a body harness out of the car, is the body harness seperate from the other interior wiring or is it just - engine harness and body harness? What's going to be harder? Wiring up the current harness or simply buying a late model 325i harness wih plug and swapping it over? Taking into account the project car is completely stripped (wiring is easy enough to get to). Has anyone done the m30 swap in a car that didn't have the nice little plug? Cheers

You only need a few of the connections in the plug to actually make it run so I wouldn't bother with it at all.

I was a bit impatient to get the project car's old engine out otherwise I could have back probed the connections. Lets hope I've got those few connections...
hehe But good call, its going to be a track car anyway so I only need the engine running really, nothing too special

Body loom is all one piece apart from a few small sub looms. Major job to change that over.
There are two ways to sort your problem - either change the plug on the M30 loom to match that on the car, or change the socket on the car to match the E30 loom. The body socket is on a short loom from the fusebox, so all splices could easily be done inside it.
Only wires required to make the car run are an earth and connection to battery+ (brown or brown/orange and red respectively), and, at the plug, green (12V+ from ignition switch), green/purple (feed to the fuel pump via fuse 11), and black/yellow (start signal from the ignition switch position 3 to the starter motor).

I've done a mix of the two.. ended up getting the plug from the old engine loom and attaching that to the round m30 plug from the original e34 body loom so it bridges the two. If for any reason I need to install the m30 back in another e34 I've got the orignal loom. Lets hope I've got all the wiring correct
