I was thinking about this today.
I still look at my Silver 3 door and think "handsome car".
It's a slightly rough at the edges example, but it has something about it that I love. 199K and still pulls well, very smooth and great fun on corners. I wouldn't swap it for a new front wheel drive car.
Out of ten, it's definitely an 8, probably a 9, maybe even a 10.
The chap at the BMW parts dept was telling me that any clean E30 is now worth a reasonable sum, it seems that prices are rising for clean shells.

Clean shells are getting fewer.. So ones that are straight, rust free etc are worth something
I really like my e30, tho i havent driven it in over a year. Buzzing about in my housemates Touring atm and loving it despite the fact its a bit of a shed atm. Its wierd, something about the looks/handling thats pretty addictive
Cant imagine what else i'd own atm, other than an e30 m3 tbh, tho maybe something like a shark nose 5 or 6, but they wouldnt be anything like as much 'fun' i dont reckon

i to like to stand and admire the look of mine.has the perfect aggressive looking stance imo. people are always complimenting the overall look and modifications on my car. as mine is well known around my area now i get on average 3 people a week approaching me in car parks and garage forecourts asking for a look around ranging from the young boy racers to the older suit wearing business men

I think the E30 has something in it's DNA, its design, that means that no matter how manky it is, it still has something about it that's just right. Same as the Mk2 Golf GTi. Even a rought example will make you smile.

Despite looking a bit rough at the edges, my 318iS is mechanically sound, so I've had a very stable opinion of it. I've had a few very minor things go wrong, all fixed easily.
The funny thing is, despite its age, it still has a very strong feel good factor when driving it.

I think mine's getting a bit untidy, but it still gets compliments regularly.
I can't think of any car I want more than my E30 - so yes, I love it quite a lot.
That M20 sound.
The handling.
The classic look.
The reliability.
Oh!..... And I hate modern cars with a passion, they're so duuuuuuull. E30's got character!

i'm getting the same way, had enough of them. i'd still like to do thing with them but as a daily driver i've had enough.Theo325 wrote:I think I've purchased my last E30, can't see myself getting another - maybe with the exception of an M3. I still really enjoy my cars, but something different would be nice. An integra would be highly pleasant.

I fell like a social worker every time I see a poorly treated E30 and want to rescue it from its unappreciative parents.Chris-W wrote:In all seriousness, I fall in love with every E30 I buy.
Feel free to gag on that, btw.
Investing too much love in one car is asking for trouble in my mind.

I think i love E30's too much. Despite the sport always needing something done (at least in my opinion), the grin they put on your face cant be beaten. Whatever money the E30 needs spending, i can't justify not doing it, however hard it means working at it.
I love walking towards my parked car, unlocking it, sliding in carefully so as not to wear out the bolsters and driving off, nice and gently

Where else do you buy a well built, compact rear wheel drive car with a good amount of grunt, even by todays standards!!
Like my wife says things are better driven from the rear!!!!!!!!!

i do love them, but and this is a big but i want a new car. i've had thought about selling up everything and i mean everything ( all the parts for the M3 Turbo and rebuild build project and the shell ) and putting it toward a newer car.
however i 'll regret not completing the project, and when thats done i'll look everything and work outs whats what. i'm getting a bit frustrated beacuse for the last year i've been runnig aroung is regular e30's. since the IS whent i've had 2 tourings and the and recently the family hack 316i. they are ok, the hack's got a damaged door and wing and a few marks here and there, i just want a nice car !

at present, E30's are for me a very good compromise between practicality and classic status. i mean, it's RWD, well built, RWD, had a pully/twiddly knob for the headlights, RWD, 6 cylinder, RWD, easy to work on, oh and RWD!
in an ideal world, where all spares are cheap and available form the corner shop, i'd have a silly 2002 or 3.0CSL or similar. something old and fun. unfortunately they're too old to have as an everyday car whereas the E30 is still very practical and if it breaks, there will always be one in the scrapper. i'm sure at the prices rise, i'll be forced onto something newer - maybe a E36.
not a lot other than bmw, merc and lexus that offers RWD saloons that can be used everyday now.
i was into MK2 escorts and would far rather have one as a toy than a E30 but the one i last owned would now be worth near 15K. in comparison, a E30 M3 would be a cheaper car.
at the moment though, with it running again (even though there is a list of problems as long as my arm) with the 3.5 M30 and Leda suspension, i love it!

Well i have to say i love my e30 its soooo much fun and one of the best looking cars i've ever owned, to be totally honest when i was looking at a 3 series i was looking at the e36
(please dont shoot me) but as soon as the bloke turned up with this the deal was done to swap my rs turbo to this and wow i couldnt be more happy, apart from a set of tyres and an oil change (which just cost me the price of the oil £6) i have never had a glitch, its a 20 year old car and never been welded, i got mot next week so will see but i cant see it cost me more than the bushes on the arb.
will b

you can't beat the look of a bmw e30 compared to others, its in a different league, only other car that is probably near or in the same league for me is the mercedes 190e cosworth or the 500sel

Yep, i love my car.....a lot. Love the way it looks, drives, feels and it still gets tons of looks wherever it goes espec when its all polished up and looks new. Wouldn't rather have anything else in the world.
Theres just something about E30's thats special. Nothing else has it.

i just have to look at my touring and a grin comes across my face as i think that devilishly good looking car is mine.
i love it for its faults, warts and all as they say, even the annoying sqeeking creeking noise from the knackard rear carrier bushes has character!
seriously tho, i could sit and look at it all day!
im slowly working thru the list of "to do"jobs
ive done the cambelt + waterpump today and i can finally hear the 6 pot insted of the waterpump rumble it had. yay for me.

I've had newer(faster) cars and older(faster) cars than the e30,but nothing gives me what my e30 does at this time...........dont "love" it,but it would be fair to say it's one of the best cars i've had and i like it very much!
Mine's done just over 67K and has been in the family from new although I only took it over 15 months ago. There's a deep sentimentality towards it that prevents me wanting to do much other than try and keep it smart looking and keep it going. Until recently I also had a big Rover 800, which was a delight to cruise up and down motorways, but a bit of a fright in the narrow winding country lanes here in S. Devon. I had the choice of spending a few hundred on the Rover to get it through the next MOT or spend more on the 320 to get it running smoothly again. It was a no-brainer for me and I sold the Rover.
The BM has a bit of rust in the rear arch rim, a small front end ding and a few scratches, which will be sorted by next spring and I do want to replace the current bumpers (black plastic inserts) with body coloured ones. Its had a major service, lower wishbone bushes, new cam belt, new dizzy cap and rotor arm, BBS wheels and tyres, which have set me back about 800 quid so far. The rear drums are pretty rusty and probably need some attention at some stage even though they work perfectly well. After that there's no a lot I need to do. Driving it is great, it stands out amongst the amorphous lumps in the car park and even though its just the bog standard 2L engine, it sounds wonderful despite the crap rear box.
I don't know whether I actually love the car, but I find myself patting the steering wheel after every long run and muttering "Well done girl".
