Im having great fun removing the head on the car. First the fan wouldnt come off and now I cant seem to get the bottom pulley off to get at the timing belt.
Should it just come off by pulling on it?

Yeah will come off has long as you have all the bolts out, give it a tap with a copper malet or something that wont damage it, Dave

Whack it with the bigges hammer you have got, try tapping the shaft in the middle to get the vibrations to release it. It will come off just persevere

Do you not have to undo the massive bolt in the centre?

No you ninny, there's about 6 11 mm (I think) bolts inside the dish of the pulley. A long reach socket really helps.

Where I come from Ninny is a term of endearment
No offence
Dunno as far as I know it's bolted in to the front of the crank!
I'll tell you in 2 months when I've stripped my 2.5 donor engine

So this bolt doesn't come off with the pulley then?
If that is the case, then I understand!

No it stays ther and you use it with a 21mm spanner to turn the crank to get the timing marks lined up. If your thinking about doing the timing belt drop me a line cos I did 3 over easter and know wher it can go wrong

Will be trying to do the timing when I put the head back on and so on.
Thanks for the offer, I will no doubt be taking that up!

if youve got the right tackle you dont need a hammer i would have used a 3 legged puller at the end of each leg a small dog clips ontothe pulley you put a 13mm socket on the central bolt and wind it in with a ratchet and it just pops the pulley off no sweating or hammer swinging (no chance of breaking anything else either bin there and done that

) think mine only cost about Ԛ£10 from local motorfactors
