Hi guys.

I have the fuel pump from an E36 m3 3.2 to modify to fit into the 325i fuel pump cage (needed for my S50 swap). I have removed the 325i pump and got some hose and clips to fit the S50 pump.

I now need the gauze/filter type pick up thing. I went to the dealers today to get one ordered but the guy wasn't able to help me. Mostly because the computers were miles behind the counter in Colchester BMW so its a nightmare to communicate what you need!

I noticed Buster and Ian (and probably Dameon and Jhonno too) have done this so wondered: Do you have the part number of this gauze? Are they available from the dealers or will I have to source another second hand pump? The gauze that was on the 325i pump got transferred over to my 318is when it's pump died (plus I like the idea of fitting new stuff to my beloved S50 engine).

Many thanks in advance.

Jai,

I used the original 325i one.

I'm 99% sure they are not available as a separate part from the dealer, but you can probably get something suitable from FSE.

http://www.fuelsystem.co.uk/filters.pdf

Scroll down, and you will find loads of different in-tank filters.

Take a laptop with you, and fire up the ETK on the counter. That'll really piss them off winkeye

I got the gimpy one (Vincent) and there was a grumpy sh!t Scottish one that didn't want to know. Vincent was very helpful but would keep rushing off to order things before I'd finished explaining exactly what is was I needed. Example: I neede the sump bolts from an M50 (e34 525i) and put the part number down on my list of bits and bobs.. I received 1. Not a massive error, easy to do but if he'd listened it wouldn't have happened. Still not to worry: I have to go back to pick up some other things that I realised I need.

Need to get me an up to date ETK.. I rely on the Real OEM site and it seems a little limited. It's much easier going in with a nice neat excel sheet with everything you need on it. When you're doing a conversion your car becomes a complete parts bin so I dread the question: What car is it sir? Errr... It could be a bit of this, some of that. LOL

If you use the proper ETK, you can print a picking list directly from the BMW software, and just hand it to them. The ETK even stores previous lists, so you can go back and see what you've ordered.

Ian, where do you get your ETK from?

Ive got to go to BMW to pick up a load of bits, tho i use Chelmsford Coopers

Vincent has been behind the parts desk for a couple of years now.. Helpful as you say, just a bit 'limited' i get the impression

Limited to IQ of <= 85

8O

You off to Chelmsford today? I'm on the way if you want to drop off on the way back and say hi/take a look at the car.

Took a look at that online manual Ryan.. I just have very slow internet (circa 100 kbps) and very little patience (as you know).

I'll try and get myself an ETK soon I think.. Try that online one at my mates office too.

Cheers

I downloaded mine as a bit torrent, but they are readily available on eBay for a few quid if you don't have a reasonably fast connection.

I've got both the old style, and the new windows based version the dealer currently uses. Personally, I prefer the older version.

That would be very handy if you could give us a link Ian.

I hate it when they ask you what car is it and you say you need a certain part but then you ask for another part from something else...

Such as the first time I went in. Z3 short shift, E30 M3 Concentric bushes, E46 top mounts and M42 timing chain, M44 tensioner. lol
I ended up getting a discount as it seemed I was ordering parts for a number of cars winkeye
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream

I'll search torrent spy when I get to Shaun's office. He's got an E36 so he'll be more than happy to DL it for me winkeye

He's getting em Vista Ultimate 64bit atm too.. he he.

Need to download a bloody pdf viewer now too.. Oh the joys of mobile internet. Still, its faster than dialup (and in 3g area quite quick really).

You will need to install a torrent client to download bit torrents. I use this one:

http://www.utorrent.com/download.php

You can then download the torrent links from here:
