My 320i is turning too long at start when it's cold. Also theres a cloud of white smoke in the morning combined with a string petrol smell.
It's a pity as the car looks refined but really feels like a banger first thing in the morning and when it's been sitting for a while.
Could there be fuel problems? Or should i just accept that a 20 year old M20 engine will be rough sometimes?
long time at cold start, petrol and white smoke.

White smoke = water.ssornerrad wrote:My 320i is turning too long at start when it's cold. Also theres a cloud of white smoke in the morning combined with a string petrol smell.
Long time to start and petrol smell = possibly plugs not sparking = possibly wet plugs (with water).
My theory is that a small quantity of coolant is entering the combustion chambers when the car is parked up with the cooling system pressurised.
Try slackening off the coolant pressure cap when you stop the car, and see if this improves things. Take great care doing this, as the coolant may boil when the pressure drops.
