Hi Guys

Just got of the phone with a mate from South Africa and he was saying that guys down there are using CO2 in a canister to drop the temp of the air going into the motor. :?:

The setups similar to a nitrous setup.

Its quite cheap and apparently when it was tried out on a Subaru the motor produced an additional 20kw more.

Anyone used this system?

cool i gues it is just injected into the inlet pipe after the filter ???? could be quite cool and relitivley cheap i wonder of to search the net i go or does you mate have a kit or what

Yeah he said something about it being connected just before the intake and that the out going air is discharged in front of the intercooler.Apparently its also used to cool down the fuel. Its rated at about 0 degrees.

I dont have all the facts as he doesnt have the system.

Surely this is CO2 being squirted onto the intercooler to reduce the charge temp, useful but not nearly as much of a power hike as nitrous.

From what I have seen of CO2, it is not injected in to the intake as it will reduce the amount of oxygen in the combustion chamber (Ie completely the wrong thing to do -Think of fire extinguishers)

The way I have seen it used is to pass CO2 through a metal sphere suspended in the inlet pipe, As the CO2 expands in the sphere it cools down thus reducing intake temps.

My main concern is that it is a huge restriction to the airflow so any gains that you get from the temp dropping will be lost by the restriction the sphere creates.

(This is the kit I have seen: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... =DEI080110)

If the same theory could be worked into a sleeve around the intake pipe (ie nothing in the actual pipe) it could probably be more effective. Could possibly have a greater surface area too which would give the air a better chance to exhange heat.

Cant see how CO2 being injected INTO the cylinder would gain power considering it would extinguish the flame in the cylinder surely? I've seen it being sprayed all over intercoolers though where it can drastically reduce intake charge temps to gain power and reduce detonation.

I think you just blast it on the out side of the intercooler so as to ice it up, I'm sure it is not mixed with the charged air intake, unlike Nitrous or LPG which can be feed into the combustion mix, although water can also be added which is not combustable hmm :?

You spray it onto the intake, not in, i.e. take a fire extinguisher and freeze your intercooler before a run.

It's kinda like the one hit chargecooler setups used in drag racing which are packed with fresh ice before each run.

Water, methanol and NOS are sprayed into the intake system.
