Finally bought the H27 as mentioned in a previous post, happy with the car, needs some attention to the rear arches, and lower rear valence.

Cars got 2.7 with 6 branch, back box, 16" hartges, hartge insignia on rear, hartge wheel, gearknob and 180mph speedo.

This H27 was based on a 1989 325i Sport in Diamond Black, currently just passed 100k, almost a full history (last being done at 92k,) and all old MOT's from new.

Having a nose this morning, I removed the ECU expecting to find a Hartge chip, but the casing had a Griffin motorsport sticker, and a griffin chip.

Had a quick search on here for griffin, and from what I can gather they've built some tasty 2.7's, is there any way of telling what other parts could be fitted to the engine?

Tony, is this the correct company? I searched this site before posting this thread, there's no mention of BMW's on they're site, and the profile page says the company was started in 2005...

griffin motorsport are non existant anymore, the owner is still about but i'm not sure where.

what they were good for is their head work, it was one of their heads on the GUG and we all know how well that car whent :D

give kevin bird a call tomorrow, he may have some records on your car and ley know if its got the ARB's and 40% LSD etc, but i'm sure you'll sprt the arb when you get underneath it.

give the fact its got the 180mph speedo then i'm sure it was well spec'd it sounds and looks it.

also, if oyu get the cam belt cover off ayou may find a vernier. then you know its been apart and griffin may have done some work on it, hartge didnt ever fit them.

Simon,

Interesting chip, depending on when the conversion was done depends on the chip. The majority of the chips were done by another company and were defo not stamped Hartge.

PM on way !

Agree with Si on the miles issue and it does seem strange not to have cam cover ?

Perhaps an innocous explanation ?

Birds can (if on file) provide history but now charge something like £50 for the info but thats well worth it !

Looks like you will be busy bringing that nice car up to your high standard Simon.

Is that a standard rear spoiler on a Hartge or a later add on?.

Simon, the engine currently in the car is the same engine it left BMW with in June 1989.

Dave, won't be bringing this one to the pod, it's been off the road since 2003, and needs some loving.

Gareth, the rear spoiler is the standard M-tech item.

As for the rocker cover, then who knows why there isn't one, but I'm sure by the time it goes back on the road I will find myself one.

Also, no front strut brace, but it does have a rear strut brace, did Hartge do rears?

Well, I'm assuming that Birds would have removed the engine, did what they do, and re-fitted it?

You were warned when you were thinking of selling the BEST H26 that the Zone has seen. LOL

Learn from your bad judgement, shut up and get your beautiful Sterling Silver beauty back.

winkeye :D

But good call Geoff and Simon this is constructive, no cam cover is a worry, wrong badge placement too. Still once you get digging you can enlighten us. Tis a good looking car.

Iain, I have a Hartge document confirming that the car has had a 205bhp conversion, bilstein suspension, wheels, strut brace (could this be the rear one?) hartge brake pads, and a finishing pack, which I would assume are badges and interior accessories?

The document has a breakdown of the engine work, and does not mention the rocker cover.

As for the badges being in the 'wrong' place, then I would imagine that if the owner who spent the £7, 796 on the conversion wanted them under the taillight, he would have had them under the taillight.

There's also some receipts from Birds for things like a replacement exhaust, and some valves.

I don't doubt it's a proper hartge, would be nice to know (or if it ever had) where the rocker cover is.

who knows things like these can disappear in the midst of time, my alpina is missing the springs and exhaust. but they are consumables i suppose, but alot lose their wheels and badges over time. So it's always nice to find one with 99% of it's proper bits still fitted.

If hartge were like alpina i would of expected that the engine would of come built from germany and the 2.5 swopped out. But i do know that birds still have a lot of the parts to build H26 + H27 engines so maybe they did it in house. Up to you to find out!

I'd be sorting the bodywork issues as the first and formost task, don't take chances on it

Si, Birds where like Sytner (Alpina) and did the UK conversion for Hartge.
