a get together is arranged next sunday with the fellow passionford guys for some official 1/4 mile times at Crail.
as its my first official timing im wondering what sort of times i should expect from my aerodynamically challenged house brick of an e30?
who else with similar power levels as me has official times and what where they?
i expect to come in last with the cossie guys as they are all running much higher specs than me but im really interested in a before and after times once ive went to stage 3 (330bhp).
although im 37 i reckon i still have decent reaction times but it will ultimitely come down to the weather next weekend as if its wet theres no point bothering.

Should be anywhere between low 14's to low 13's I would have thought with a bit of practice! An experienced 1/4 miler would get better times out of it.

6 seconds to the 1/8 mile... then about an hour or two while you wait for the tow truck, then another 20 seconds while it tows you over the finish line at its maximum permitted speed of 56mph.

mine can do 13.5 1/4 mile at york.
Take any crap out of the car,i also run with no spare wheel, actually i don't have one anyway !
If you've got adjustable dampers soften the rears as much as possible. And if you have a portable compressor then put the front tyres at 35-40 psi and the rears down to about 10 psi.
oh and a bloody good burnout to warm the tyres up.

handy tips there mate
munky is that jealousy im feeling on your part? is it because you need a calender rather than a stop watch for your times? :D
joking aside munky what was your times when you did this recently? is your engine a standard 2.5?

ooh a video whoring opportunity...

http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s252 ... 9b2c80.flv

10.69 (terminal speed of 69.8 iirc) on the 1/8 mile, which according to some funky little calulator thingy equates to a high 15 sec 1/4.

With a reaction time of 0.134! 8O

The other one was standard and in much better condition than mine engine wise. Think he did it in 11.5 iirc.

Standard, knackered, overheating, clutch slipping, no clutch fluid, boiled diff oil, 1st gear wheelspinning, 2nd gear crunching m20b25 on a 4.2 diff. (I think I've covered all my various excuses there but if I've missed any please feel free to tell me)

and not forgetting the classic " i slowed to avoid a cat that ran across the track"
i shall hold off from fitting my new tyres until after the event so i to can look hard. it also makes it look like you know what your doing and not a strip virgin :D

I dissagree.Mine get very sticky and after trying runs doing a burn out and not,I found on average to be 0.2 of a second quicker, which came off my 60 ft time.
I've been doing a lot of runs this year.Trust me, it does make a difference :burn:

Yes... hence me having a set of knackered old bbs wheels on for that particular drag day :D

I was a bag of nerves while I was queueing up. Big crowd of people watching, never done it before. I knew about the staging lights etc but that was about it...

In true cheesy hollywood style... as soon as I got to the 1st stage all the nerves went and all I thought about was the 2nd stage and the green light. Was shaking with adrenalin after the first run too. 8O :o:

you must have very soft compound tyres. On a hard compound tyre (like 99% of road tyres, comparatively) 'warming them up' by doing a burnout does nothing but wear them down. Or at least thats what I was led to believe by the owner of this...

toyo proxis ,nothing flash.Speaking from experience,it worked for me.As i said, the results were lower 60ft times because of better grip off the line.
Heres a photo off the york website of mine :

I like your louvres!

And afaik proxes t1-s are very soft, the t1-r's not so much but still pretty soft. My old t1-s's wore out damn quick but gripped like glue.

I didnt get enough runs in to notice really so I'm just going on what I was told.

my current tyres are toyo t1r and they are very soft and give great grip in the dry. im changing to dunlop sp9000 after the strip for better wet grip.

Clutch in, rev it high, dump the clutch and come straight off there onto the brake with your left foot.

Or if you're fancy, hell/toe the accelerator and brake with your right foot.

Fuzzy, remember to fold the back seats down too, it reduces weight.

at santa pod last year, i had bald toyos on so thought i'd better warm them M30 style, a gentle 3000rpm burnout in 3rd! :D

it did feel like it made a difference.

mainly it was just immature fun! :D

Ahhh but the touring bench is bigger and heavier, so folding it will obviously reduce more weight!

no you have it all wrong. it lowers the centre of gravity therefore improving handling.ffs EVERYBODY knows that  .
i was thinking of removing all the seats, lying on the floor and using an ingenius arrangement of mirrors to see were im going. along with driving in the nude, shaving off all my excess body hair and not eating all week i think i should manage a reasonable time for my first attempt :D

my e30 is totaly blank. and i´m only 75kilo.
should make about 1200 kilo race ready.
i also have TOYO proxes and can do a 2.1 on 60ft. burnout in 2nd gear and they are fine.
with TOYO drag slicks it is 1.7 on 60ft.

You should also remove the roof aerial to smooth out the airflow, I understand it's as good as adding a 100bhp nitrous kit.

so far thats the same 60 ft i get. 2.1 on road proxes.Below 2 would be far better.Small or poor burnout its generally 2.3/2.35 ish
