Hi guys

Just tryng to adjust my valve clearances but ive come up against something im not sure of. Should there be any play in the rocker itself? Basically i did the first 3 starting from the dissy end, and they were all fine, then i got to the 4th and as i was feeling it it moved a touch, surely you cant adjust the clearence if the rocker has say 0.5 mm of play in it? Are they an easy replacment if this isnt normal?

Mark

There will be some "play" in these engines now. only way to completey remove the play is to renew both the rocker arms and shafts.

Which way is the play ?
Dose the rocker move between the clip, back and forth. or dose it "rotate" on the shaft?

the movement between the clip is normal.

That is caused by wear on the rocker shaft and/or the bearing in the rocker arm.

How many miles has the engine done ?

time for some new ones then dude.

there should be no perceptable play in the rockers on the shafts, leaving them in their current condition often results in one breaking when least convenient.

180K+, defo time for a head rebuild, the bottom end should be sweet stll though :D

So are the rockers not supposed to 'rock' slightly on the shafts? when the cam lobe is pointing down?

In layman's terms lol :D

yes, thats the valve/rocker cover clearance, i think he means play in the shaft the rockers run on, which is a bad thing.
