Hi

Im doing one at the moment on my car so:

* A Turbo
* An Intercooler
* Coilpack
* Actuator if your turbo doesnt have one attached
* Probably a decomp gasket to lower the comp if necessary
* Set Of Injectors
* Piping for the turbo and intercooler
* Boost gauge
* Plus other small bits and bobs that DO add up.

Depending on your requirements you could change pistons, cams, conrods etc.
You really need to know what sort of power you are after and the budget then you would have a clearer direction.

Hope this helps.

Give Ant a call. He can do you the whole conversion as a drive in drive out if you are interested.
Great guy who will help you.

Cheers

do a search man,

its a big question and a list would take some time depending on your specifications and taste etc.

my advice is spend a good hour or more reading old threads and make a list of what you think you may need and get some advice from there.

what kind of power are you after?

Im doing a 325i conversion so i have a vauxhall omega coilpack. Not sure about the 318 though.

Injectors I have the 30lb M30 ones.

I agree with rick325i, if you want that sort of power go for a 325i lump. That way you initially get the power you want and when you get bored and want some more you can go the turbo route on the 325 which should get you anything from 200 - 350 bhp ( seen a thread where a guy i think its John Volk gets 350bhp with std internals).

For Ant do a search and you will find him.

thats what i always wonder in these topics.im not aware of the pros and cons of the 'is' engine but id generally choose the bigger power engine (m20 2.5) to start with then turbo that when the time comes.
i dont understand the idea behind paying thousands to take the power to the level thats standard in the cheaply available 2.5. iirc a couple of hundred quid will see a 2.5 conversion finished then spend the big money in the persuit of the bigger power.
is the 'is' 4 pot easier to get higher power figures (300bhp+) than the m20? look at the bigger picture because although you say you are only after about 180bhp i can gaurantee you will get bored of that quite quickly and will want to take it further.
power is an addiction .once you have given in to temptation the first time it slowly eats away at you until you either run out of money to fund your habit or you crash and die in a high speed impact :cry: :D

in fairness the unloved M40 engine really thrives with a snail attatched ( turbo..)

in good condition you can have 325 power @5.5-6 psi and enjoy 40+ mpg as well, so it does have a place, wind the boost up and you'll surpass 325 power and still have the edge on economy and handling.

I've done 2 M40T conversions, one was a cheaper R+D exercise but still delivered all that it promised, car of the month is an M40Turbo :thumb: cant be all bad.

M42iS egine is again worth a look but thin on the ground in any condition S/Hand and requires all the loom to work correctly.
