Exhaust system on 316i Touring

Does anyone know how many pieces it comes in?

The centre piece looks like its going to soon need replacing. I wanted a throatier sound, but obviously not too loud or boy-racerish.

I'm sure I read the best thing for this is to replace the middle section and not the tail pipe?

Any ideas?

Has anyone else done a 316i part or complete exhaust change, and if so, where did you get the parts and at what cost?

I recently had to replace the back half of the exhaust system on my M40 engined 316i Touring. I say half because there are only two sections. The rear of the system cost £56.00 inc Vat from GSF car parts and was a very good fit.

Mine does not have a CAT fitted and i don't Know which models did.

Mate, that looks like a catalytic converter to me.
The system is only 2 parts. Is that picture with the Y connecter from the down-pipes on the right (ie taken from the drivers side of the car)?? If it is, you need the front pipe/cat assembly.
Alternatively, see if any of the sporty aftermarket manufacturers do a de-cat pipe to suit.

Thanks. Yes, it's taken from the driver's side, lying under the driver's door. Okay then, so I need a new front pipe. Is the de-cat pipe legal? I reckon I'm best getting a standard front section and putting a nice twin box on the back.

As you're en France, I don't know.
Over here, as long as you put the cat back on for the MOT it's not a problem.
If the French regs allow it, I think I'd put a non-cat system on it with a nice single outlet stainless rear section.
Just my 2p (or eurocents as the case may be).

Shame you are in France as I have a stainless rear section with a 3" outlet which has a nice growl.
