radical suggestion, but how about waiting untill you've driven the car on track and finding out what YOU think it needs doing.

i've seen a lot of people spend a lot of money on trackday setups, only to get thoroughly out driven by someone handy behind the wheel in a virtually standard car
cheers,

That's a good idea! I see what you're coming from, a good setup for one person might not be good for another...

it's not worth messing with insurance companies. if they spot an mod on your crashed car, you're not covered, full stop. they aren't ever going to be sympathetic! they don't need to be! remember, if you crash and are at fault, you're liable for the cost for EVERYTHING for all parties involved! in my case when i hit a 10 year old works transit, it bent the track rod but nothing else, by the time it was cleared through insurance and they'd had a rental van for a while, it cost my insurance company 3.5K! 8O

if you're going to mess with insurance companies, consider it there for getting a tax disc as it'll be worthless for anything else unless you're very lucky.

i suspect you'll end up with a smart looking E30 with alloys etc and they'll look closely to find a way of getting out of a claim.

Interesting? who you talking about there??

Another cheap option that performed very well on a 318- Liam last years champion, ran spax adjustable dampers, with falkner custom springs

just out of interest, apart from dadies wallet, how you are going to insure a 318is and declare modifications & tell the insurance company it is being used on track? I struggle to insure mine at 19 with mods declared and 2 years NCB?

Let alone buying coilovers etc?
exactly my thoughts mate, i could only just get insure on a 316 with it being insured as my dads being the main driver me the 2nd driver.

but we shall see.

i dont recall his name, i know he's based near oxford, i may not be J stock springs but something similar, it was a brief chat he did say he used the inverted billies and a custom OE style spring. i belive he may have upset a few people who were running coilover suspension :)

he's now raced in brit car as well, maybe that'll give a clue to who it is

on the subject of brakes and a 318iS, theres a guy who can lap the ring BTG in 8min40sec odd with standard brakes, just better pads and fluid. Even rubber lines. That tells me that you won't need to be wasting money on big brakes.

Forget all this you've got to pass your test yet, buy a shed and then be fixing it of all the usual E30 problems and actually doing it and realising what hard work it is and how much money it takes

I have a £300 shed, good enough Si? :)

Will be pretty much iS spec bar engine. Probably just better pads, SS lines and decent fluid. Not much point in a 4pot setup until I changed the engine and upped the power a lot.

Following on from the topic in hand... There have been a few springs mentioned, where can you get some of the more specialist stuff from i.e. group N springs?

Also whats the write up on the Eibach springs with the Bilstein Shocks?

I believe you can get group N springs from turner motorsport.

Also you'd easily be able to get them from H&R them selves.

The ring isnt as hard on the brakes as most tracks
