As above my passengers footwell now has a tint of a/f. It appears to be leaking from the flanges inline on the two white pipes that are on the passenger side of the bulkhead leading to the heater box.
As these flanges bolt together i assume there are o-rings inside that can be changed hopefully stopping the leak, anyone done this?
I had a look on the etk at work but couldnt see any o-rings, can anyone help with part no.'s etc.

This is reasonably common. The rubber o-rings go hard and brittle with the heat etc, and start to leak.
They are a bit fiddly to replace, but not particularly hard.
BMW part number:
64 11 8 377 824 - approx 90p each.

The newer heater matrix is made of plastic and splits.
If you going to bother to take the whole thing out
you might as well swap it for the older style metal one but it means
taking the dash out, and could be the first sign of overheating problems.

I have exactly the same problem - I also have a 318is. I am planning to fix it next weekend - I will let you know how I get on....

It's an E30 Jim but not as we know it...

Put a piece of PVC adhesive tape around the flange before you start, in such a way as to keep the little square metal nuts in place when you undo the bolts.
Check you have the newer type coolant pressure cap with the yellow centre underneath. The older type were recalled because of over pressurising the cooling ststem and causing leaks like this.
