Is it true you can get spray cans from BMW in original E30 colours? Got some SE sideskirts, IS front lip and Mtec1 rear spoiler I want to spray up in Alpine White II. Picked em up off Daz and he said BMW still sold cans of the stuff.
What kind of price do they do it for if it is actually available?
Cheers in advance,
Ian

Thank you! That was the info I needed. Do you reckon a 150ml can'll be enough to cover the bits I was talking about - SE sideskirts, Mtec1 spoiler, and IS front lip? They're all black, so I suppose I might need a couple of coats?

nope, you will need a couple of cans. and its best to order mroe than you need as you will never know when you might need some paint,Firefly2005 wrote:Thank you! That was the info I needed. I think you will need at least 6 cans for that lot.

Ok then I'll look at 6 cans if you're sure it'll need that much? Like 1an said, will be useful in the future I'm sure. Or maybe get a bodyshop to spray them up and do a better job if it's looking like costing almost £40...
One last thing, if I'm painting black plastic (IS lip and sideskirts), and dolphin grey (plastic insert on the Mtec1 spoiler), do I need to do anything first? I've seen people mention plastic primer, so do I need to undercoat them with something first? No experience with spray paint I'm afraid....

Give them your chassis number to make sure you get the right paint, i used nearly two cans just for an IS lip spoiler so Andy's in the right ballpark when he says get six, they're only small cans.

I bought some dealer alpine white to do my se skirts and was surprised that the colour match wasn't great. I later got some halfords "bmw alpine white" to touch up and it was actually a better match as it seemed to be more dirty/faded and therefore more like a real 16 year old white! The bmw paint is much better quality and has better nozzles but v. expensive. Maybe worth priming and doing a few coats with halfords paint then finishing up with the proper bmw top coat.

Well Cam, I haven't ordered it yet! Wait till you see my new SE sideskirts, (replica) IS lip, and Mtec1 spoiler. Car's going to look beautiful. Especially once the angel eyes are fitted, though I need to check what colour they are before I fit them.nottingham_fox wrote:tut tut firefly... why couldnt you have just asked me or adam.. lol.. nevermind.. we could have got the paint for you from sytners...
If you could get hold of the paint cheap, be my guest! Looks like I'll need a few cans, perhaps 5 or 6.
How's the 316 coming on? Could pop in this weekend if you're around... see how it's lookin.

Actually a really good idea - how much were the Halfords cans a time and what size were they? The last top up with BMW paint's a good idea too.bigmattpowell wrote:I bought some dealer alpine white to do my se skirts and was surprised that the colour match wasn't great. Oh and the label on my car says BMW Alpine White II - maybe there's two shades of it and you got the wrong one from BMW? Just guessing.

No, definately alpine white 2. Maybe it just shows how much my paintwork was in need of restoration! I just couldn't bring myself to keep going back to the dealer and shelling out >£6 for a TINY can, everytime I found another bit of rust. Can't remember the halfords price but definately cheaper and at least twice the volume.
