Im trying to fix the rear screen washers (88 325 Touring)!!
These have never worked although rear wipe works perfectly.
I have replaced the rear wash motor and water now pipes as far as the inlet at the wiper motor but doesnt get as far as the jets?
Any ideas?
Is it easy to dismantle the rear wiper motor assembly to inspect /repair or is new unit reqd?
Also, when pressing the rear wipe button it activates motor for a couple of seconds then pauses and will only work for short bursts. Is this normal or should it work constantly whilst button is pressed?
Thanks in advance.

Seeing as your current wiper motor actually works, then there may not be any need to replace the motor, have you removed the cap that covers the spindle on the outside and tried running the pump to see if water comes through? If it does, then the cap is obviously blocked up. It's also worth removing the motor and running some compressed air through the spindle of the wiper motor (the water runs through the centre of it), and check to see if that works.
Leaving the cap off and squirting in traffic can be fun
It's normal for the water pump to only run on the left to right swipe, and not on the return.

I suggest checking the in line one way valve could be blocked or the jet itself could be blocked as above

Thanks Simon,
I think I'm almost there!
Water was getting through the wiper motor but jets must have been blocked after such a long time.
I have cleaned jets and both are now working..... however..... water(small amount) is still coming out of hose where it joins wiper motor and also the white plastic valve.
I'm hoping that replacing the valve will solve this?
I finally sussed that it only pumps on one stroke!

If valve blocks it sends the water out of the small hole in it

Aha, so mine was blocked? I binned it anyway, but it turned out to be a kinked pipe under the trim.zimmerbimmer1 wrote:If valve blocks it sends the water out of the small hole in it
Strange how the little valve could be easily blown through but refused to pass water properly
And the little plastic cap that is attached to the wiper motor that the pipe goes onto, doesn't stick back on. Even with araldite
