My local stealers doesn't even have a parts dept.!!!!!!!!!!!! They have a storeroom full of parts adjacent to the workshop but the entrance from the customer side is guarded by 3 receptionists. If you go in halfway thru a job, full of crap and oil, with a rusty part in your hands, these 3 poseurs look at you like you are a suicide bomber and rapidly call someone from the fortress behind them.
The service manager thinks all e30's should have been scrapped as soon as the new model was released!!!!!!!! The last conversation I had with him nearly led to him being dragged over the desk and stuffed thru the windscreen of a shiny new 5 series. He really is a condescending tw*t.
How many expensive consumer items do you know of that are still generating (parts) sales 15-20 years later. Business is business, but as far as this guy is concerned, parts for older cars should be franchised out to someone else.

My local dealers, (Westerly, Barnstaple), treats me, when I come in for some obscure part, in exactly the same way as if I'd come in to order a new M5. One of the sales staff positively drools at the mouth when I mention a M50 enginrd E30.
I've ordered some pretty obscure parts, and except for one part which took three days, they've all arrived within 24 hours. The part that took three days got onto an order by accident, but since it cost 2p, I let it stay. Turned out to be a single small ballbearing, part of the gearbox.
I've yet to be told that something is NLA.

My local is Doves in Portsmouth and I get excellent service. I'm forever going in and asking for 'the small plastic clip that hols the cable on...' Nothing is too much trouble. They phone my mobile to tell me my 30p part is in! I'm sure grey hair and a suit help! But the car itself also commands a lot of respect. Some of the mechanics come out chat and always say it's the best car on the forecourt. So I leave with my part and walking 6" taller. So I guess that's good service. I can only speak as I find!
