The plastic bumper and Touring E30 came out 20 years ago this month! September 1987!

How time flies - I remember these when they came out. 8O

Tourings are nice in standard form. But they are going through the council stage now, and they day has gone. They were a classy motor about 10 years back.

Chrome will make a comeback but not for a while yet.

yes it was a long time ago and you could really drive them then far fewer cars on the road and no speed cameras and the bloody things were reliable then too. Don't you just love progress.

A nice straight non messed-with Y plate 323i in a nice colour, is a nice car. Once they're worth enough (ie there's hardly any left!) for the necessary restoration work to be worthwhile, they'll be more desirable than facelifts.

all E30's have galvanising (sp) just not enough of it obviously

most tourings seem to hold it together better than any saloon, my touring is the best shell i've had it's not rotton anywhere and it's twice round the clock

i've never seen a touring as rusty as the saloons go

my £200 turd had two 2" spots of rust on one sill and has a big hole in the scuttle. Thats all.

Tourings tend to have had an easier life, are bought by family types (at a guess) that look after them a bit more.

2/4 doors were bought by yuppies that think a valet is as good as a service.

Touring and Cabby also made in a different factory to the saloon too, the 5 series factory. Apparantly had an impact on the quality of the builds.

tourings may not rust as much in general for the reason stated above but they didn't tend to have an easy life most have big mileages as they are used as utility vehicles.

I'd rather have motorway/hauling mileage than something thats been ragged to within an inch of its life. Thats my job winkeye

they were built and dingofing (sp) was a brandnew plant with newer technology, hence why they are more resiliant along with cabs
