Hey there everyone,

As you may have read from one of my posts last week, I lost the only key to my E30 (MUPPET) and i just received my new lock barrel from a mate who is scrapping one.

I have one question though... HOW, HOW do I remove the old lock. I have managed to start the car by removing the electronic ignition unit, but to move the car i need to either get the steering lock off, or replace the barrel to get the wheel lock of that way.

Any ideas, either on the barrel, OR the steering lock.

thanks

i just replaced my ignition barrel and you need the key to do this mate so you need to replace the whole barrel housing sorry to say mate as you need to turn the key to position 1 then there is a hole in the black outer rim if ya look then slip in a small wire which releases the barrel

break the lock turn to stage 1, then insert small allen key or similar into the hole on the housing and lock should come out

Thugs

I'm assuming the car only had one key (IE Not 2 different ones for doors and ignition)

Take the door barrel out and take it apart, there are numbers stamped on the tumblers. write the number down, outside tumbler first.

You now have your key number.

Get your key cut using this number, job's a goodun

I only thought about it as I've got a barrel on my desk for someone.

One of my pet hates with cars is when you have 2 or 3 keys for it.

As long as the car has never had a lock set replaced, just go to the main dealer and give him your last seven digets of the chassis number and they can cut you the right key! It doesn't cost much, well he didn't charge me but then he is a mate.

ohh, thats handy. will save alot of work cos my intentions were to replace ALL the locks which would have been a pain in the ass to say the least. THe car is being towed this week so I will have it at home and get on to my friend at sytner leicester and see what I can get :D thanks for all the help guys - wish me luck getting her up and running cos she has to be servicable for the arrival of my M535 manual as i fear it will die like my M535 auto has from daily short distance driving :(

also, if anyone needs any E30 bits, my mate who gave me the lock set has some mirrors, washer bottle, all sorts of random little bits for sale too.

thanks again guys
