Still trying to get the head off my car to see if its cracked or not but the one thing still holding me back is the fan.
I just cant get the damn thing off! Ive tried putting a big spanner on it and smacking it as hard as I can with a hammer but it just wont loosen. I know it loosens the opposite way to normal too so thats not the problem.
Ive even tried clamping the belt around the pulley to try and hold it while I push really hard on the spanner but it just wont budge.
Any ideas?!?!

It unlocks the same way as the fan turns.
It will happen if you keep at it for about 10mins and putting lots of tension on the fan belt.
Good luck

Tried all the above. Ive hit it so many times now with the hammer and its not budging. Ive soaked the whole area tonight in more WD40 in the hope it might help again tomorrow.

Soak with WD40 then heat the nut from underneath the car with a blow torch or similar then just keep hitting the spanner with a hammer, took about 10 mins of pretty constant work to get mine off

You'v e probably already thought of it, but make sure the car is in first or second gear. That will stop the 'spring' in the crankshaft system from absorbing your mallet blows.

Easy... jam an old screw driver between 2 of the bolts that hold the pulley on, this stops the pulley from turning then crack it off with a fan spanner and hammer.
If you can find a piece of thin flat steel bar then drill 2 holes in it equal to the distance between 2 of the bolts that hold the pulley on. Then bolt this to thte pulley and you have an extra lever.

Got it off today. Took a couple of hours of swearing and heating and more swearing etc.
Had to get a friend round to hit the spanner as hard as he could while I held onto the pulley as hard as I could to stop it moving.
It finally came off in the end!

Bloody right it did! I was smacking the hell out of it all day. We were just about to give up and I said we'll try one more time and just hit it as hard as you can and I'll hold it as hard as I can. Hit it twice and nothing happened. Hit it one more time and it moved and both of us were in shock, we couldnt believe it actually moved! LOL
Ive spent almost as much time on that as it took getting the rest of the engine off.
