I don't understand the whole claims culture.

I injured my back at work 11 years ago,I could have claimed, but didn't because at the end of the day it was my fault and TBH I thought it unfair to penalise my employer for something I did.
It still gives me grief to this day,but I never regret not claiming compensation.

I do however under stand making a claim if the injury has a long term effect on your life financially.

no, iv had worse things (and i have had whiplash as well) from larking around, the way i see it if you are going to do somthing then you are willing to take the conciquences of that, in this case it is drive a car on the road and the potential conciquence is far worse than a sore neck for a few days.

if you get hit from the rear whiplash is "probably" going to be a direct result of that, thats what it means!!!

My question is then, how is the whip lash going actually effect you financially?

Months off work losing pay?

Agonising pain making you unable to work perhaps?

Fair cop,claim.

But if it's just a sore neck and your still working,I see no case for a claim.

If an injury / accident is my own fault, i could not claim as i have too much simple Honour and Dignity. I respect 'Jesus' for not doing so in his case for this reason. If someone else, or their negligence caused the accident while i was behaving and 'Inflicted' the injury on me, i would claim every pound i could and never feel an ounce of guilt.

It shouldn't be about premiums, it should be about Honesty, Honour and Self Respect.

^^ as he said i could never take my self seriously again if i claimed for a sore neck. a serious injury is i defferent matter and claims can be justified for them.

Yes. The whole claims culture is perpetrated by the insurance companies. Insurance is a legal requirement, there tho serve the customer. However, in return for obscenely high premiums (also to cover uninsured drivers), insurance companies pay people to wriggle out of settling claims.

So it's a case of, when you get the chance, grab what you can, recoup some of the money you have paid to them over the years.

Insurance business is a speculative gamble. However, the increasing premiums swings the gamble in the favour of the fat cat insurance companies.

Pressure needs to be brought on the government to do something about uninsured drivers.

It isn't as though this is difficult. It's just that without some extra government funds the police have better things to do. Like stopping stupid children offing each other.

Just to add i also got £2800 as the car got written off for minimal damge as it was a Jag and parts to repair it were stupid money. This car was bought by me 2 weeks earlier from my local shonky car auction for 700 quid :P
Did i feel wrong about getting 2k profit for the car and 1990 quid for whiplash? No did i feck i actually felt kind of happy and considerably richer :P

You need to watch out for the scum who slam on the brakes to get a fraudulent claim in. Happens a lot in north London (esp on the A10)

If the doctors weren't so keen to give the ok then this wouldn't happen.

Also it's a good reason to keep a reasonable distance from the car in front.

I don't know if its the norm but my doctor had nothing to do with mine. The insurance company insisted i go to a specialist of their chosing which i did and his report is what they base their payment (if any) on.

It does seem a bit of a racket. It seems great when you win a claim but it all adds up to higher premiums.
