Everybody seems to say that the pre facelift 325i's were a bit more pokey than post facelift.
Well, reason I ask is my first 325,which was thoroughly abused in the worst way(although it had a FSH) was considerably more pokey than my Tourer.
The Tourer isn't slow and runs well,so nothing wrong there.
Which brings me back to my first one as to why it was more powerful.
It was an 87 post face lift, the year they changed over,is it possible do you think, that during this crossover period (October of that year) that some of the pre facelift engines found their way into some early post facelifts?
The might explain the difference in power.
Is it possible.........................?

I'm not sure why your old 325 was better, may be the engine was just a sweeter lump than your currant one ?
I think the preface lift used differant pistons that gave a slightly higher compression ratio than the face lift.
I think they lowered the C/R for emissions(sp?) sakes on face lift/Kat preped cars ?

Thats the strange thing Andy, the engine was caned to high heaven,I never changed the oil when I bought until the day I sold it,50k and 2 1/2 years later.
I only ever put that crap oil in to top it and it felt rough as well.
Bit annoying really
My Tourer has had an easy life and should really be better!

I did say it was abused!Andy335Touring wrote:50k and no oil change !![]()
When I was doing it up to sell it,I changed the cambelt, the tensioners were so worn tha belt had become loose,so loose in fact it had cut a 2mm groove into the cam cover! How it never snapped is anyones guess!
I would love too,I spend too much time changing gear at the mo,the powers ok,but the gearbox is crap as a tow'er.Andy335Touring wrote:

Weight makes a hell of a difference yeah, i stripped my 318iS to pick up leather seats last year and dammn did the thing fly without seats
Woudlnt b suprized if u had an early engine in a late car, BMW probably had to get rid of their pre-facelift engines somehow!
