Meh, plenty in the US of gAy they run to 500k. It's getting fairly high but there is no specific reason why it would be shagged. As long as bearings/gaskets/timing chain+tensioner are all up to spec then there's plenty of life left in the old girl.

if it's cheap and a manual, have a look!

check condition of the coolant and under the oil filler cap to see if there is a sludge build up, if all is ok, go for it!

at the end of the day, the apparent condition of the engine is more important than the milage.
200000 serviced miles is better than 100000 miles if it's not looked after. often at this age, they don't tent to get looked after properly, the oil may be done every year but the coolant gets left in and in time, kills the head gasket and sludges the cooling system up.

is there proof of history etc with the car?

My donor E34 535i had done 186,000 miles when I stripped the engine.

I took the crankshaft to an engineering company for a regrind and they told me it was a waste of time doing the job as it was well within tolerance so they the just polished the journals! :D

As Gareth said, if it's been well looked after it could well be quite alright.
