after reading a couple of articles last night, does anyone know if a carlton gsi engine would fit into an e30?
I know its a case of anything is possible with the right amount of work but I'm not exactly skilled to the level of Fred Dibnah in these matters and wondered how much work would be involved?

nah the gsi is 24v straight six 204bhp
the lotus was the 3.6 377bhp twin tubby jobby

Why not chuck in a M30 engine for a bit more power and tried and tested?
That's even worse than the Ford YB idea

A friend of mine had a really nice (immaculate), last of the line k-plate 24v. Nice car to drive though (when it was working).
As for engine swap, i'd sooner drop an m50, or even better m52b28 in, at least its tried and tested - and you won't go to hell!!!

for 200bhp, id go for cosworth 24v from granada.

all heavy old boat anchors with not much power and little in the way of aftermarket power increases too.
Either toss another BMW mill in there or go jap turbo - the tuning possiblities are only restrained by your budget

quite a bit of tuning i would have thought for a 100bhp or 50% power increase on a N/A engine, plus it's still a heavy old slug of a cologne V6 with a fancy head

I agree, they make a lot of sense for a 2.8 Capri owner in particular

its not just about bhp, torque will be good from v6.

those weren't even any good when brand new, not when compared to other V6s available. the later duratec V6 is very nice indeed but not that old heap. if i had a 2.8 capri... maybe. useless for anything else.
the carlton lump is actually a nice engine. but when you can just put a 535i lump in for less hassle and more power you have to ask why you'd want to go to the bother.

if you went vauxhall id go for the C2.0let (red top turbo) think phase 2 chip and mods is around 280bhp not too expensive either
