I suppose citreon suspension might be better than his shagged/collapsed 325 stuff in his sig? :)

This is up there with the dumb questions such as:

"What short shifter can I fit on my automatic"

That's nearly as bad as putting a ford engine in a BMW.

On a serious note, guessing you want a cheap way of slamming it with adjustable ride height. Slam it with the angle grinder. Or pay the price for air bags/hydraulics.

Its not too far off the principal behind air susp on showcars in terms of dropping/raising etc.

depends what you want the car for.

Neil imagine Brianmoores response for 1 second. It would be something along the lines of:

Do not taint bmw's brilliance with french leaky scrap.

Ask a stupid question, get a silly answer?

Exactly what I was thinking. Yeah it's French scrap & I'd never do it myself, but it would look damn cool...

its not a silly question. we have members with ford engines, jap v8s etc fitted. so why cant someone suggest fitting another manufacturers suspension system?

as for Brian, he'd proabably be interested in the mechanics of making it all work

What shitreon with hydralics suspension is A) Reliable B) Better than stock bmw stuff in terms of handling?

The only reason I can think why people would want hydralic suspension is to get over speed bumps if there car is phat and low innit. And other companies cater for this market.

I still think its a dumb question  :P

Citroen BX = 50p & a pack of space raiders. Airbag suspension = rather more £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£. You wouldn't fit airbag suspension for the handling gains either...

i'd suggest that a citroen hydraulic suspension system would handle considerably better than an aftermarket airbag or hydraulic setup.

i stumbled accross a vid on youtube a few weeks ago of an old topgear handling test which had a lotus elan, ford granada and a citroen xm doing a slalom. the citroen looked impressively composed, almost matching the lotus.
cheers,

I think its a funky idea for a show car not somthing i'd do, i dont remember snoops asking how well it would handle or how reliable it would be, i dont think this is no worse than fitting a ford engine in a bmw :D

you got it

'IF' it did happen its not like I would be driving like im on the track all the time is it? especially with citroen suspension, I was thinking of the aesthetic side of things

calm down lads it was only a question

whats that supposed to mean? I don't see the problem with some on here, i'm from birmingham so whats wrong with that? I asked a serious question, I can seehow it can be seen as stupid but I thought this was a forum about e30's not a kids playground  , does it mean the cars I buy & sell are sh*t because they've been owned by someone from Birmingham, most of the time I see cars for sale in Birmingham people start saying 'its from Birmingham forget it', 'look where hes from, doesn't know what he's talking about' bla bla , fair enough some of you may have had some bad experiences with cars in Birmingham but does that mean all the people + cars from Birmingham are beneath the rest?

if you can, you should install the citroen suspension, just check every review on the net and you will only get 5/5 stars. Don't listen to these chavs, they have oem sicknes :D

it wont be a direct fit and im not sure if the citroen uses mcpherson strut fronts or not but its worth a shot, anything can be made to fit.

(on the bmw being better than other makes in the sus department the mcpherson strut came from ford origionaly)

A lot of cars on hydraulics use modified citroen 'spheres' to make the ride more easy to live with.

They'll have a switched system that can either use the spheres or not, one for go, one for show.

Rayvern have now developed a system that uses a shock and spring placed inside the car linked to the hydraulic system to the same effect.

Both of the above will run into big money, 1500+

If you want a fast lift but no tricks like three wheels etc, a 'fast-air' system of proper airbags will run you in at approx 2k. That will lift and drop in a second or so, allow for front to back, side to side etc.

If you're just after the ability to deck it and get over speedbumps a cheap basic air-ride setup will more than suffice. These are pretty slow to lift and drop though and still set you back 1k+

You could achieve a similar effect by mounting citroen suspension in an e30. In theory all you would need is to fabricate top mounts and attach the struts to the hubs then mount the pumps etc. As has been said, handling wouldnt be all that for racing etc, but for pure comfort citroens are damn good so you would get that benefit too.

malcom, why have a dig at maxel ??

i think the ten comments before his were harsher and direct at snops, maxels got a point about 90% of this forum not liking anything away from OE or OEM +

320touring made it simple and clear not to lay into snoops for a simple question, maybe you should follow his lead .

Maxel - Tylerma was just referring to your phrase 'oem sickness' as an oxymoron; it's not a personal insult, just a reference to what he thinks is a mis-matched pair of words.

Kos - it's not a dig at Maxel (see above). In any case, his subsequent comment is in the plural.

Steady.

I quite like the phrase "OEM sickness." Nice original phrase. I think I'll use it sometime - and using oxymoron as a personal insult - classic! Might have to have it on my sig...

Anyway, back on-topic Can the citreon suspension take on different driving characteristics as well as just altering ride height? Could you set it stiffer for track racing, and to comfort for ordinary driving? Or is it not that sophisticated?
