overheating, oh bugga :`(

right. had a problem a week or so ago where i was getting bubbly water in the header
changed the thermostat housing, thermostat and blue sensor. started her up banged the heaters on and bled the system. left it runniung for about 20mins and she was sitting pretty much in the middle.
after being rather pleased with myself i decided to do a quick oil filter and plug change and took her for a spin, not far, just to the end of the road and back. by the time i had got back the flippin guage was at the red point

i slowly opened the blead valve again and was greeted by a load of steam. eft it 10 mins started her back up and creeped from 1/2 to red in no time at all.
damn you bmw and your bloddy e30s

whats goin on here? what else could i try/change?

Don't want to be the bringer of bad news So,
Have you back washed the rad?
If not then it could be a blockage in the block,
Or a cracked head, sorry

I don't know about blockage in the block but if your rad is on the way out it is always the prime suspect in any over heating case.

right,. old rad stripped out, picking new one up at 4. 130 inc vat dont seem too bad to me

@ widge- if this doesnt work you`d better sleep with one eye open tonight :lol:

It was only a suggestion, what did the old one look like?
Also you shold runa a hose through the block and check the viscous fan whils your at it.

Anyway you don't know where I live :lol:

a few years ago the fan collapsed and the blades went into the rad. the garrage sorted the fan and was told the rad was ok so they left it on. the metal fin things have been squashed a bit from this.
ive tried blowing through the little pipe which feeds the bottle but all i do is turn blue. kinda reckon this is where the fault lies.
check the viscous fan? when it was running i put a bit or rolled up paper on the plades. didnt seem to stop very easily. is this what you mean?
where do i insert the hose for the block?

btw im watchin you right now, your sat at your computer

Stick the hose in the thermostat hole and flush it all throught that way.

If the little pipe was blocked the air in the system would collect at the top of the rad, I think, which could be a cause. If you're lucky it'll be a combination of things building upp to make you think it's somthing big that is fecked.
