Hi all,

I have been told that the rear lower suspension arm bushes are knackered and I wanted to know a couple of things:

A) how easy are they to replace? i.e. can i do it myself?

B) do i just stick to the ones i can get from GSF/Euro car parts or shall i go for the powerflex ones? Whats the difference?

Hope someone can help?

Thanks in advance,
J

the pwerflex ones will be a bit more stiff and the road noise in the cabin will increase..

they are a pain in the arse if u not got the special windy bmw tool, if u take it to a garage the norm seems to be £40 - £50 for the bushes and another £100- £140 to fit them. i think id rather pay somebody to do it rather than arse about with it myself :D

I don't find a problem with the powerflex bushes, can't say I've noticed the road noise increase!! Also they'll last longer, easier to fit too.

If you can remove the rear beam from the car it is easier, but can still be done inplace. Getting the old bushes out is the worst bit, usually burn them out is the easiest solution. batter the metal insert out, clean it up and press in the new ones, jobs a good un!! :D

The special tool is called a bit of threaded rod, two nuts, a couple of washers and a couple of bits of metal plate for each end, at least thats what I done!! worked a treat!!

got quoted about £60 for eccentric bushes from zimmerbimmer, may be worth it if you wanna sort out any excessive rear camber.
