I know i'm not the fastest, the times are handy comparison's to see how your mods are doing, i should be faster since last year but that only depends if my latest mods work or not.Kos wrote:go to dissagree with that andyAndy335Touring wrote:The times not that important so long as you have fun and get a bit of a buzz from it and the banter
you spend all thst money on engine mods for just a buzz ?
i do it to be fast and prove i'm fast
The first few runs up the strip are a buzz so long as you have a few runs with a comparable car or just trying to beat the clock on your last run ?

bit of both for me. its all good hearted racing and banter but its also about comparing your performance to more serious metal to see how far youve came and how much further you need to go. i know ill never have the fastest as money is much tighter these days due to the onset of domesticity but i just want something that can challenge at the mid power level.Kos wrote:go to dissagree with that andyAndy335Touring wrote:The times not that important so long as you have fun and get a bit of a buzz from it and the banter

I'm not going this time but I went in June and managed 14.8 seconds @ 97 Mph.
I didn't bother with a burnout but should have, got a fair bit of wheelspin off the mark
Cheers,

I was a little surprised, I was up against an Evo 8 FQ300. I lunched him off the line with torque but he quickly overtook me and finished in the high 12's at about 110mph.
I found the tarmac to have less grip than road tarmac
Managed to crack the welds on my scorpion exhaust too, right where the 2 pipes exit the centre box. Made a right racket on the 150 mile trip home
Cheers,
Iain T

No way, Santa Pod it really grippy!
I'm going to run my Civic. I hope to drop into the 13's this time. I have done three runs since it's been 1.8, two of which were 14.0
Jhonno, challenge on?

burn outs on raod tyers wont make a difference, you'll ned to smoke themfor anout 30 nseconds to make them sticky but they are not designed to work like that.
i've been up that strip hundreds of times, on raod tyres not many things you can do make any difference. and if anything too much grip bogs you down. and if you use slicks that grip from launch you 'll probably break something.

i was getting mine good and sticky for quite a while but then i had a trailer to go home on and the tyres were illegal before i even got there!
that said, it didn't seem to help! just fun

ive not done a timed run yet but ive often wondered if the burnouts helped on road tyres or if it was just the average joe playing at being a pro driver.Kos wrote:burn outs on raod tyers wont make a difference, you'll ned to smoke themfor anout 30 nseconds to make them sticky but they are not designed to work like that.

unless you sit there for 30 odd seconds they wont heat up, by the time they do they will start tearing to shredsSimon13 wrote:i'm sorry Kos but thats a load of sh!te, warming them up will make a difference to your time
road tyres are exactly that si, road tyres and with well over 250 runs up santa pod in e30's i know what makes a difference.
even dropping you tyres preassure to below 20psi ( which i've seen done ) wont work. a few psi to get a wider contact with the track works but its minimal. you'll need at least 20 runs in one day to see what works for that particular day. sad but true, having been pit crew for a pro et team for 3 years i know a bit about this subject.
unless you are running 10x15 centre line wheels and MT rubber, forget it. but if you do and you launch it hard you'll break something !

doing big fcuk off mo-fo burnouts makes sod all difference on street tyres mate, a quick spin up to get rid of any dirt but other than that, particularly with places like the pod with a treated surface there's plenty of grip.
Saw a turbo'd E36 snap a driveshaft on the line last year

The pressure drop isn't about contact area.

on street tyres it is, on MT's it aint
i'm sure you've seen the way MT crease up on launch, they generate so much heat by the time the finish thier run the preasure goes up

BTW, your not allowed passengers on the strip, get your dad to empty the boot a bit though
