I'm running my 335 with a single Scorpion rear silencer and it isn't that bad noise wise. Not compared with other cars I've had anyway but might struggle with some track day noise limits!

People tell me it sounds good but I've never heard it from outside the car! :?

I've got videos on cd that my passenger took when we went to LeMans, I'll try and load some up if you don't mind me spamming your thread!?

Hopefully it might give you even more motivation if they are any good! :D

sideways goodness. right bleed power steering and off to hellfrauds for some wire see if i can getto the rolling road?

nice one!!!

sounds like your instrument cluster has a 4 pot coding plug maybe? a 6 pot has 50% more sparks per rev than a 4 pot so it will read 50% high. (eg, engine at 2000rpm, tacho reading 3000rpm)

oh dudes i have finnally moved to manchester!

1 trip in my dads toyota and one load trip in my 335i :D

i went to the rolling road but i never got on as there was plenty of people there, which was fun, nice to see some faces.

but i got there late as i was making a heat shield for my drive shaft, still got to see busters car running which put a big smile on my face :D

i think i will but a small centre box to nock some noise off as my girlfriend doesnt like the noise

it is too load.

but it goes so sideways! i have had my mates out in it and they love it!

i drove it a took it a bit easy as the revs were strange (pm sent in 2 secs toby) but then i nailed it and revs round to 7/8/9000 revs and :burn:

then i got out and let andy have a go and  i just watched as he NAILED it!

good it sounds good!

i can make some vids but its different now i live in manc.
keep watching guys i will get this sorted!

pics tomorrow night. :D

not problem!

i just feel wrong in manchester flooring it when its so load! plus its been a complete mule since its been finished! lugging my stuff (and mostly the girlfriends stuff) all over the place.

when i get the fan hooked up through a relay - some how managed to blow one relay after a small fire 8O i need to get hold of another as a 30amp relay just wont do....that burns out too :? bloody fan.

i dont think the cooling is bled right as the temo keeps moving up slightly on the motorway past the 3/4 mark :?

it will sit at 3/4 with no fan at 70 but then after a while it will rise? bit of a pain really.

could be bot bled
maybe the bends in the rad hoses are too tight? restrict flow?

umm?

but once the fan is on it runs at half way nice. need the relay done.

Great work dudes!

But I would try and avoid getting an M30 too hot for long.

I found putting the heater on full helps in this situation (and opening the windows so you don't roast alive!).

would do that but the blowers have stopped working? same for the electric windows! only work when doors are open

why i dont know?

putting the fan on a manual switch i may have to do the same with the blowers?

If you get constant hot air out of your heater it should be free of air locks

there's a reason for that. it's to do with the heavy electric loads being temporarily turned off when you crank it, and you need to connect a wire from a terminal on the starter to the round multi plug. someone else will have to tell you exactly which though :D

I know why! :D

The green and black wire from pin 15 on the C101 loom plug on the bulkhead needs to go to one of the tiny little earth connectors on the starter motor - a very easy modification.
There is another way to bypass it but this is the best way as it feeds to an unloader relay which prevents the windows, heater and electric sunroof working when the starter is cranking.

sorry i stopped replying last night the girlfriend dragged me to bed :P

oh gentlemen good work with the electrical help! i will let you know how i get along.

c101 sounds like the big plug which is the loom needs dissecting?

sounds easy i will cut into the lower section which will be the 318i part and find the green/black wire. connect a wire to one of the starter motor nuts.

cheers chaps.

im having problems with my 535i AC fan. im using that fan as the rad fan but i cant get it too work with a relay? right now i have to watch the nedal and if it gets to high i connect 2 wires together which get hot real quick.

so i have to disconnect them fast.

i am going to try with a new switch and a new relay (40amp) see if it works?

C101 is the big plug where engine and body loom meets.

I forgot you started with a 318.
I started with a 325 so I'm not 100% sure if the green/black wire is the same on your body loom as mine. :?

It's quite easy to pull back the rubber boot and have a peep inside though. :)

also thanks to the boys for giving me the ifo for the blowers 8) forgot i had reconnected the battery so i made a few sparks on the starter motor :? :D

oh and after toby sent me 3 of teh rev counter things i found the right one 1st time :D class teh one i had was a 003 so i found the 002 and bingo, the revs make sense again!

sweet

i also took a quick video which i will upload in just min, its not great but it should be good for engine noise

guys help with my fan please.

i have followed a diagram i made over the phone but the problem is the the relay is getting too hot :?

here is a pic of how i have done it.

Image

now if i heard if i move the relay closer to the fan it wil take more of the load? so will it get hotter? or will it be cooler?

here is my idea

Image

will it make a difference ir will this run hot anyway?

40amp relay i have also posted this in teh tech help but i think everyoe is at the pub watching the footy?

your right about the bloody football. but i have judge dread on in the back ground 8)

cheers for the rev counter thing. it works a treat now, i had a good test in it winkeye

so if i move the relay closer to the fan will it be cooler? or should i stick it out the window and hope for the best?

How thick is the wiring ?

The earth and the switched positive just needs normal/average thickness wire but the one from the battery and to the fan need to be chunky gauge wire.

Where have you mounted the relay ?

I've got mine where the old DME/fuel pump relays were, by the pasenger side strut top, i've taken the main positive feed from the starter motor.

Car sounds beefy ! 8)

oh yes it does.

will the power from the starter motor be les than dirrect from the battery?

wire is 30amp all round and the relay is located in the drivers foot well.

its all on the drivers side as the earth for teh fan is rthat side and i have good gromit to put the wires through.

if i put all teh wires shorter and in the engine bay (where battery should be) would this decrease the heat in the wires?

thing is if i put the relay in the engine bay i cant monitor the heat.

Battery in the boot ? Are you running a wire all the way through to the boot ?

My wiring/relay is on the N/S so it was handy to run the wire from the starter rather than all the way around the engine bay to the battery, it's a good feed point to pick up on as the supply wire can flow plenty of amps.

I think it's normal for the wiring/relay to get warm(not hot) due to the high amps ?

I flippin' hate football too, I was watching a documentry about DeLorean but fell asleep just before the end!

I've got my fan wired a little different to that.
I would scan in a diagram but I have no scanner! :(

I'll try and describe -

From relay-
Pin 85 - Earth
Pin 30 - +12v positive (fused -30A)
Pin 87 - Fan - power
Pin 86 - Switch - +12v (fused 3A)

Hope that makes sense!
I've never had a problem running this set up, and I've done it this way on several cars.

Does sound good dude! 8)

as soon as i can get out the city i will get some videos winkeye

yeah battery is in teh boot, i used the 325i se set up. its a big cable from the battery to where the battery should be (engine bay) that has a connector for the big wire to the starter motor.

its the bmw way :D

so i have been using the positive connector there.

i think both are systems should work its just toby mentioned about a lower load if i can locate the relay closer to the fan?

i will give it a go, i have toi ask because the power wire connector to the relay gets mega hot. the relay gets warm and the wire does, im sure its fine but the connector shopuld not be that hot.

lots of tape maybe? :?

my fan wiring uses a E32 aircon 2 speed fan switch with the E32 low speed resistor and 2 relays. the wiring is essentially the exact same setup as the E30 aircon had apart from the fans which are from a shitroen bx (the donor E32 fan was dead)! they're all positioned within the original fuse box in the correct locations! yes i am anal and no there are not any spare spaces in the fuse/relay box any more!

the advantage of the way is did it is the slow speed (needed 95% of the time that the fans are on) is through a large resistor so draws less current and the wiring all runs cooler. at full chat, the load is spread between 2 relays and 2 loads of wiring, again cooler than just one relay

the wiring is all shown on here: - fuse compartment shown most of it. relays K1 and K6.

guys thanks for the help the fan worked a treat! i may put in another relay just to hold the temp as you guys seem to be doing this.

but the major issue and it has pi**ed me off royally is that i think i have broke my 335i?
:x

so i was on the way to the leeds festival doing a high revving 70mph when i noticed the water temp go up steadily 8O

major panic and an attempt to get off the motorway asap

i think the needle may have got into the red (? maybe not ?) before i switched the engine off and drove down the exit slip road and tried to stop.

major fear and i opened the bonnet

water pissing out one of the hoses on the thermo  big crack  very hot water spraying out the split

i dont know if i saved it or not but i couldnt bleed it? i had 8 litres of water in the car as i needed it for the festival - incase the beer ran out.

the beer didnt run out so i didnt mind using the water.

so i tried to patch up the rad hose with some electricians tape and then set about bleeding the system ( i hate doing it as i never know if its done right?)

but after a while the water just started shotting out the header tank.

i think there was a air block or something?

so drove I it to a garage that i found and let him take a look.
he tried to bleed it lots but to no avail

i had a 1 hour drive on A and B roads stopping when the temp got up slightly and filling the car with more water.

dont know if the head gasket has gone? i couldnt bleed the thing?

any ideas?

this is the pipe and my fix it job.

Image

notice the tension in my finger

Image

guys will it be the gasket as the reason why i cant bleed it?

oh there is no thermo ion the thermo housing.
