You could get a G Tech, then you'd know the 0-60s of yours and your mate's cars (that's why you wanna know isn't it?) pretty accurately :)

Did you reply to my last PM by the way blimmer, my Inbox was full, sorry :(

I did a few 0-60's in my 320i and it worked out at 9.2 average, but my car has 183k miles on it and loads of weight in the boot due to loads of tools, a massive sub and loads of dynamat type stuff.

My 2.7 project is underway so I'm hoping to shave a second or 2 off that time :D

Andy is that using a timer and the speedo though?

The speedo overreads quite a bit, especially with those standard-sized 15" (?) wheels you have :?

Ha ha..
Those smallish looking wheels are 15" BBS with 205/55 tyres on 5 mm tread. (I see you just editied your post)

What I did is I drove at 60mph speedo reading and kept it there and reset the OBC speed thing. This gave me the actual speed and was slightly under, I then drove at 62mph and found the OBC (Once reset) was at 59.9mph.

I took the 62mph figure and timed it with a stop watch, did 10 runs 0-60. I averaged it out and got the figure.

So it wont be as accurate as proper timing gear but I would say thats it's as accurate as a g tech.

What I meant was that I thought the speedo overread so that if you put non standard (i.e. bigger) wheels on it won't underread :)

That's a good way of measuring though, and very good times for a 320i!

All I need to find out whether mine's over 15 seconds or not is an OBC :hammer:

The only problem with forums is what you write doesn't always come accross as you meant it.

I didn't really understand the last part of your post above.

As long as the rolling radius of the wheel tyre combination remain the same as standard wheels/tyres you wont be too far out.

If you retain the same width tyres (IE 205) and go up an inch, you drop by 5 on the profile)

So say your running 205/55/16 to keep roughly the same rolling radius you would fit 205/50/16's. there are loads of tyre size calculators out there that are more accurate than that method, but it's good as a rule of thumb.

For those not in the know, the 205 bit is the tyre width in MM the 55 bit the hieght of the tyre shown as a percentage of the width (55% of 205mm) and the 15/16 bit is the size of the bead (I'm pretty sure everyone knew that )

I can't be sure how fast my car is but I got 6200rpm in 5th today which I didn't think was too bad.

Ah, I see what you mean about the tyre sizes :thumb:

I guess the speedo just overreads as it's a bit crap then! :?

It was showing 128, the limiter on mine is at about 6700 so it was a little way off hitting it.

320's have bugger all torque bit they rev really nicely as they are really short stroke.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the speedos are more inaccurate at slower speeds than high, or did I get it round the wrong way.

However fast it is, it's not quick enough

Good quotation that! :)

I would've thought the speedo'd be more inaccurate at higher speeds; if you presume there's a certain percentage of error it'll obviously be a higher error the higher the speed.

The way to go would be a sat nav system that shows your current speed, accurate to within 1mph however fast you're going! :D

Oh,

I thought the 320 was 80x66 and the 325 was 84x75 and the ETA 84x81.

I think my 323i would be very lucky to do 0-60 in 9sec. Actually I think 9sec is the figure I have read in road tests for a standard 323i. Mine is modified but still doesn't feel any quicker than that, gets left behind by everything.

I' m sure I've seen 8.8 secs 0-60mph in Autocar for the 320i. I thought the 323i was 8 dead....e21 shape was 8.3... (143 vs 150bhp)

Cheers
