You can get them for much cheaper than that.

That's M3 money.

Check what month of 1998 it was built. Post march (to avoid nikasil) and it's an expensive car but could easily be worth it if it's in prime condition. Check what suspension work it's had done as 82k miles is nothing for the engine but could have worn out a few suspension components.

Hard to price without seeing it. E36 prices vary like mad as there are some real sh!tters out there. For 4.5K it needs to be immaculate but I'd advise to buy the best car possible as a bad one is a money pit. On the whole they're a very reliable motor. As fozzymandeus says, check the build date regarding nikasil, but chance are if its OK now you'd be very unlucky for it to happen at this stage of its life. Check springs (known to snap at the bottom coil) and balljoints are another E36 favourite (check for a clonking sound over drains etc). They can rot around the arches, bootlid and front wings if mudflaps are fitted but I've seldom seen rot on a late one. When you turn the ignition to position 1 or 2 (can't remember which) hold down the reset button for the mileage. A series of numbers will appear, one of which is the last few digits of the chassis number which will help prove if its the dash the car started its life with. Probably worth giving BMW a call with the chassis number as iirc there was a recall for the steering column.

Sounds about right.

I sold my 328 sport this year, which was clean but with 140k on the clock for £3800

the nice ones like mine hold their money.

but you can get them much cheaper - try £1500 if you just want a 328i coupe (non - sport).

Look harder mate. The wheel are 11x17j jenuine AC's. The car also has lots of AC goodies from mirrors to steering wheel. Even embosed in the Vader seats winkeye
